When do you think the DaytonaC will be at/around MSRP?
So I was late to the party, but am on the list at a few local ADs for one. Not expecting anything anytime soon though. So I'm probably gonna pick up a blnr while I wait for the new daytona. When do you all think the new DaytonaCs will be at or around MSRP on the secondary market?

I'd imagine it'll be awhile. I won't be holding my breath. Too many other great watches out there to experience!

Do you really want a BLNR? And if you buy it does it delay the Daytona purchase? These are questions you need to ask yourself. I wouldn't give up hope on the Daytona

As soon as my AD gets one. I expect he will sell it at precisely MSRP plus tax. And not to me, lol!

Not for awhile is my guess. It all depends on how many hit the market and when.

We've already seen prices drop from 20k+ to 16k and I've seen some sell for a bit less. I have to imagine that a year or two from now they will be pretty close to MSRP. The people who want them THAT badly will buy them off the secondhand market but the willingness to pay this much over MSRP will dwindle as those people get a hold of them and the watch loses more of its "who-can-get-one-first" status. Those on the AD list will start to receive more and more phone calls as the year goes on. I can't imagine it lasts much longer than another year or two.

On the used market will be a long time, sellers will milk the rare and super exclusive myth for as long as possible.

Rolex set the prices so why hasn't it been at AD msrp since its release?
Availability is one thing, price gouging (or being asked to buy another watch at the same time) is another.

You can use the past Daytona price and availability as benchmark, i would say 10 years, at least

Hmm, good question. Both the Batman and Hulk are still selling at a premium here in Asia. I expected the BLNR to stabilize in a couple of years, but it never did. I don't forsee the DaytonaC coming down in price any time soon. Perhaps closer to retail over 5-7 years?

In the USA I would estimate 18 months longer. Pure BS guess.

A year from now, I think TRF trusted sellers will still be selling at 10%+ premium to MSRP. Buying at MSRP from an AD will probably still be a challenge.

Maybe never. During the old SS Daytona run during the then artificially created "rare"ness created by Rolex NIB SS Daytonas were selling at a premium in the grey market. Only the financial meltdown of 2008/09 stopped that nonsense.

I'd guess early 2018. Good pick on the BLNR!
I spoke with one of the more senior SA at a large Rolex boutique earlier today, whom I had purchased two popular SS sport models from this year. Now this may only apply to this specific boutique, so please take this with a grain of salt. While I'm not a VIP by any means, she assured me that while the "list" is real, she would be able to get one for me middle of next year. A SA giving you hope is one thing, but to have a specific timeframe? That definitely got my attention. So if an ordinary guy like me has a shot, I don't see why the "real" VIPs can't get theirs by the end of this year, early next. We also spoke of the recent slowdown in demand for luxury watches, which definitely plays a factor to the availability of the DaytonaC. Perhaps each SA has their favorites, which I hope I'm one of, but empty promise or not, the recent decrease (from 20k to upper 16k) over just the past 2-3 months is more evidence that people having been increasingly been able to get their hands on one. Note: this may only apply to the States. I don't see markets like Asia slowing down anytime soon... |

I don't think it will be as long as people think. The number of buyers willing to pay that much of a premium are already decreasing. I'd guess that within a year there won't be that many people willing to pay $16K for a $12K watch. The excitement will be gone and those with enough money to pay an extra $4K for the watch will already have one. But I'd guess they will hold their value for a long time, just not a premium.

Went to an AD today in Asia. Inquired about the DaytonaC and she told me their first was sold last week. Price was about USD$13,900 which I though wasn't bad (considering the markup in other items here). No 'list' per se. She said they just 'call everyone' and its first come first serve. Also mentioned the white would be more expensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's really not worth throwing a number out there...as it's pure speculation. One thing's for sure though. Mr. Rolex and all those lovely AD's out there are masters at creating/maintaing the Daytona "mystique/hype" experience, and are going to milk this for all it's worth.
OK, back to the question...gun to my head, I would say the correct answer would be closer to years than months. But, in this case, I will very happy to be wrong. |

After hearing how long the wait is for most ADs and mine won't tell me where I'm on the list I'm preparing to be able to move into the PM world

Have to agree its not like its even a new watch just a cosmetically changed old one,to be honest just cannot understand why there should be any shortage. It was at the ADs just 3 months after Basel that's shows how easy it was to produce the so called new Daytona.

I'm going to go against the tide here and suggest it may not be more than two years at most here in the US. Both AD's I frequent won't charge over list because of the eventual backlash that creates and there is still a supply of non ceramic Daytonas available. I would never pay more than "list" price for one and I suspect most others feel the same way. of course when I see how tight the supply of the DDSD blue is, I'm probably wrong!!
