The metal certainly plays a factor, but it's also the rarity of the P vs. the others (G, J, and R) that causes the price differential.

Yes, the P was in production for less than 1 year before being discontinued so it's much more rare and that is the bigger factor in its market value. The other 3 metals (G, R, J) were all produced for approximately 4 years each.

Ok, thanks, the P is awesome with it's blue dial, but pay around double the price of a R, don't know about the others, because it's rarer, not really sure, I guess it's really if you have a lot of cash, then why not, at my level I try to get the best deal for the same product, rarity is not what comes to mind first, though I regret not getting the 3712 unworn for 32k euros when I got my 2012 5712 for 2 k less than retail double sealed, I probably would not have sold it to make that investment as when I see the prices now for them just 2 years later it's crazy, but was thinking it's the almost same watch, though I believe 3712 is monocoque, but it doesn't have screw down crown, which I usually prefer even if I wouldn't have swam with it, but just for washing it with water prefer screw down.

Anyways your 5070 is great, some say white dial but it's very light grey right?

Wow! I've always been anti chrono watches, considering I don't frequently find myself in situations where I need to time anyone/ anything.

However your 5070g might very well have changed all that. Congrats on a wonderful piece.

The P is really a rare watch

Look at the 3970 and 5020 ... same watch / complication only a different case
Many 3970 were made, almost no 5020

A 5020 will cost you 2 and even closer to 3 times the price you'll have to pay for a 3970

I don't agree
All 3 gold 5070 were made 4 years
So it is correct to think that during the first 4 years (1998/2002) there must have been less 5070j ..because production in general was less than in 2006

BUT.....
Know that during 2004 and 2006 both the R and G were in production
And no, they were not able to double the production
They did not make 500 or 600 G and R at that time

So from 2002 till 2004 the only made the G
From 2004 till 2006 they made G and R. So split the production between these 2
From 2006 till 2008 they only made the R

Conclusion.... We can assume all 3 are made in about the same quantities

Exactly the same as the 5131 G and J
They had to split the enamel dials between 2 references.... You can be sure that today the production of the R is twice as much as the J or G used to be
In other words, if they make the R during 2,5 - 3 years you can be sure the production numbers of all 3 5131 will be more or less the same
