FS: Rolex Solar Aqua Canadian Military Oyster
Greetings all,
Up for sale is my late 1930s Rolex Solar Aqua Oyster cased watch from the 1940s. These were made by rolex for the Canadian market, and were marketed to soldiers during the war. Most carried the reference number 3478 but this one isn't marked as such. Many variations. I purchased the watch in Canada. The case appears to be silver or an alloy there of, too white to be steel or plated. The case back, which is signed "Rolex" is stainless. Case is 30mm. Crystal is in excellent shape, dial appears to be all original, as are the hands, but the hands have been relumed at some point. The crown appears to be a later replacement but even the example in the Dowling Hess book, the crown is a replacement. Almost unavoidable for being close to 80 years old. The movement is a Rolex signed caliber 59 and running very well. I've been wearing it and it seems to be right on. The movement was recently serviced. It comes with the period NATO strap as well, nice addition and gives the watch its military origins back. I'm asking $900 shipped in the US. I'll ship to the rest of the world but customs is on you. Thanks for looking and on to the photos:
