Cracked BLRO

As the title says. RSC said 8-12 weeks to get a replacement and about $1200. Fun

oh man.
It could've always been worse, i guess. Was it only the ceramic that needed repair?

$1200? Seems high just for the insert. You got anything from RSC to show us?

Ouch! Hard to believe that piece is going to cost you $1,200.
Rolex probably makes just as much on their service prices as they do on their watches.

Oh man, sorry to hear this. Curious for the details as to how it happened as well once you're able / willing to do so. Although extremely uncommon it's my one fear of having a ceramic bezel watch vs the old aluminum inserts.

We've been told by the experts here that this is the downside of ceramic. I am not a ceramic hater at all (own the BLNR and LVC), but this is the unfortunate cost. I've read plenty of threads in which Padi commented on how ceramic will shatter and is far more expensive to replace.

Is that 1200 for the bezel insert alone, or the bezel insert plus an overhaul??

The service centers here in Japan would likely insist on an overhaul along with the replacement.

I hit my hand into a door handle pretty hard and it cracked and just spilled on the ground. It must have caught it just right. RSC inspected the bezel to see if that was damaged as they said if it is the ceramic insert will not fit back in right. Luckily the bezel was fine. The impact was strictly on the ceramic. The crystal was fine.

$1200 to replace insert. If I needed to change the bezel the cost would have been an additional $4,000 (half the cost of a submariner) lol

What kills me is the time. Bezel has to come from Geneva. They get their shipments once per month. So they will place the order and hope it comes in beginning of November. The gal told me it likely won't and the last Pepsi bezel that broke took them 3 months to get.

Oh ya, watch is 2 weeks old. What can you do but just chuckle.

That's quite unfortunate but you are taking it rather well, kudos to you for being able to chuckle about it.

The price for the insert does not surprise me nearly as much as the additional costs for a new bezel if it has to be replaced. That's surprising to say the least.

I've read people here on the forum say that you can crack a ceramic bezel, but this is the first time I've seen a thread on it. I guess I had to "see" it to really believe it could happen.

Glad the rest of the watch is ok.

Pic of the watch without the bezel?

There have been several cases of this happening to the BLRO. I'm wondering if the blue/red ceramic is in any way more brittle than other colours?

Or maybe when you're rocking a BLRO your arms just swing that much harder!

Ouch! Sorry to read about this. $1,200 for just the bezel replacement... did the price go up? I may be mistaken, but I thought it was ~$750 a few years back?

It is a lot more brittle John!! I cracked mine on a seat belt I believe (can't say for certain). Never had an issue with any other ceramic insert before.

There has been an alarming amount of BLRO bezel inserts breaking!!

I think the RSC is being very optimistic on the time frame. They had mine for at least 5 months and broke 2 insert trying to repair it. The third insert worked.
