First time purchase, pre order too long?

First post here, so i bit the bullet and pre ordered a 116610LN at a rolex Authorized dealer, they said theyre out of stock and wait time is 4-6 weeks. Its been 5 weeks now, about 2 weeks ago i called and they said they had to wait for the rolex factory to ship to them. I thought there should be no wait time to get subc black. What do you guys think? Should i get my deposit back?

It's up to you.

Do you really believe that the Dealer is not going to provide you with a watch ? Are there other Dealers around that have them in stock ?

Every situation may be a little different.

If you walk into another AD today, they'll probably have one, if not three.

Are you in a small town? Mom and Pop AD?

You made a deal - but call around to another AD. If you find one ask the original AD if you can cancel / get your deposit back.

Or just wait...

Surprised there is a wait in CA for a Sub C; no shortage of them in Boston metro area at least.... and certainly not here on the forums from trusted sellers. As noted, either wait (if you received a discount) or request your money back and shop elsewhere.

Here is a fact of life: many salesmen will tell you whatever it takes to make the sale. Is this guy lying to you? No way for me to tell; you'll have to be the judge of that.

Here's another fact of life: it doesn't take 4+ weeks to ship a watch from Europe to California so at best your AD was estimating when he might expect to see his next 116610LN based on past experience. Is this reasonable? Possibly. The reality is your AD is relying on other people to ship the watch and after he places his order with them he has little control over when the watch actually gets shipped.

Personally, I'm not willing to play this game with retailers, either they have what I'm looking for in stock or I go elsewhere. On occasion I have given them my phone number and told them to give me a call if they get what I'm looking for in stock but I never put down a deposit.

I have little doubt the AD will eventually get you your watch. If the timing of the delivery is not important to you then sit tight and it will come in in due course. If timely delivery is important, get your deposit back a look for an AD who has one in stock. You get what you are willing to accept.

Think this is an AD you want to build a relationship with? Then wait. As long as my AD is giving me the price I want on a piece they need to order, I wait to so I can give them the sale.

If not, then look around. As mentioned, its common to find them in store, though not always a slam dunk.

I was in similar situation, but I didn't need to wait that long.

My only regret is that I didn't try the re-seller in TRF. If I were you now, I would call one of the recommended re-seller in this forum (davidsw). I believe it will not take a week to ship the good quality pre-owned watch to reach your door.

This URL is just one example: http://davidsw.com/product/rolex-116610-submariner-2/
