Nervous about New Explorer II 216570, Please Help.

So I just received my new Explorer II from an online seller and what sparked my nervous questionable mind racing self is this picture I found on the web.

I did some snooping around and noticed that 99% of the "Rolex" engraved on the clasp extension is black and is somewhat textured like below.

Now these are pictures of my clasp extension. Notice its not textured or blackened out like all other pictures I've seen. Is this fake or is it real. Please help as this was a big purchase for me and I don't want to get hosed, thank you.

I'm sure the experts will chime in soon, but it looks fine to me. I believe Rolex changed this a while ago. Enjoy!

I am no expert, and sorry, but I think it's fake. Here is my 216570

Notice the "bump" clasp, mine is much more square shaped then yours.

Not an expert, but doesn't look good to me. I had an EXP II and the clasp was the same as TheVTCguy. And yes, post of a pic of the dial. Who did you buy it from?

Post more pics of the watch.

I say again, I'm not one of the resident experts, but it looks good to me.

I thank you and appreciate the input but I can't be the only one with a clasp etching like that unless it indeed is fake. I hope someone with a similar clasp can chime in an ease my mind.

Rolex has done all sorts of things over the years. Lots of little nuances.

Where did you get it?

That should take much of your fear away. A trusted source? Or a bargain deal from an unknown?

There have been numerous threads here on TRF about the changes in the clasps, the engraving on the clasps, the smooth and "rough" inlays in the clasps, and when these changes have appeared on which models.

I think your watch is good.

I bought my DJ2 form an AD. A DJ2 clasp is mechanically a little different, but the finishing on the inside of my clasp is identical to yours.

I received the watch from a trusted seller here on the forums and I appreciate all your efforts and I think I found the answer. On Rolex.com under Basel 2016 they had a picture of "The New Explorer Bracelet" and this was it (Pic Below). Again I appreciate everyone's input and I'm sorry but I did panic there for a second. You guys are the best!

If you got it from a TRF trusted seller...no worries.

Enjoy.

I just found out they started introducing the polished etched clasp August 2015.

That is one of the differences between the exp i & exp ii. The exp ii has the sand finished clasp. The exp i has a polished finished. I have had both and cirrently hold a exp ii black dial dated December 2015. Looks fake to me but check to see if your watch has the rolex crown engraved into the crystal at the 6:00 position. The serial # should be in yhe fehaut around the inner dial too at the 6:00 position.

Your clasp doesn't look anything like the "fake" clasp that you show.

It isn't about etched or black, it's about crown shape, quality and placement..

They did switch over last year. My exp. II from early 2015 has the same rough clasp and two new watches purchased this year are both polished. Your exp looks fine.

edit: take the plastic off and enjoy.
