Icon9 6694 stopped suddenly, spring snapped?

If this isn't a case of bad luck I don't know..
Bought a lovely 1966 oysterdate 6694 YESTERDAY, wore it to the office today, and after dinner tonight it stopped! The winding resistance has gone, I'm feeling the clicks fwd and backwards moving the crown, but no resistance...

What's wrong, has the spring broken? Costwise what am I looking at?

Sounds like it.. If the spring is broken in a manual wind watch, it is no longer connected at the end and will just turn and turn and turn.

Most watchmakers would want to replace the mainspring in conjunction with a full service.

Thats extremely bad luck, my 6426 hasnt been serviced in 7 years with no problems to report. Probably will send it in for a cleaning once I see how my grandpas watchmaker does on his watch.
