SMP, blue or black?

Hi, I am planning to buy an Omega, SMP co-axial is one of my favorites. I have some questions and need your advice ^^

I can't decide Black or Blue SMP.
Black: I like this color more, it can be casual or formal.
Blue: This color is more classic, an icon color. But Blue seems casual, not as versatile as Black.

Questions are:
1. Whether James Bond ever wear Black SMP? Or Bond only wears Blue?

2. The bracelet of SMP is without fine adjustment. Would this bracelet fit your wrist without any difficulties, by using the half link? A few SMP owners are complaining about the bracelets are either too loose or too tight, even using the half link.

3. Which color your suggest? I tend to choose Black, but I also think Blue is good. :P

Sorry for so many questions. For your reference, I attach a pic as above. The left two are what I am considering. It is borrowed.

I am quite headache about these two colors. I really need your advice. ^^

I had the blue SMP and sold it because everywhere I looked someone had one. I have recently purchased the black SMP 007 limited edition and I am very very pleased with it. For me I would say go for the black.

The strap fits my wrist perfectly and have had no problems. A half link was removed for me.

I would be amazed if they were promoting the black SMP and it did not appear in the new Bond movie. The only pictures we have seen so far show Daniel Craig wearing a PO 42mm but I reckon Bond will wear the black SMP with his tuxedo.

I would buy the black. It was on my wrist a AD a couple of weeks ago and it really looked nice. It reminded me of the 2254 in spite of the differences. Black divers are always good to have IMO.

Black. Electric blue is cool too but black is the best.

I like the background field of the date numerals in the same color as the dial face.

The black has a black date field and the blue has a white date field.

Go with the black.

I was on layover at JFK airport and happened to notice 3 Blue SMP's. The Blue SMP is classic, easily recognizable and uniquely Omega. There are many dive watches out there with the black bezel and dial design. The Blue Bond stands alone.

To my knowledge, Pierce Bronson and Daniel Craig wore the Blue SMP. In Casino Royal, Craig wore the Planet Ocean in the beginning of the movie (running chase scene) and the Blue SMP in the Poker scenes.

Final 2 cents

It sounds like you already have black colored timepieces. Perhaps blue could add variety to your collection.

Also, I havent seen any pictures/video of which SMP is featured in the newest Bond film, but I am pretty confident that Daniel Craig will be wearing the black SMP in Quantum of Solace.

I say blue for two reasons:

1. The blue SMP is the true SMP IMO...original, classic Omega and unique to this watch. The black is trying to be like others (ie Rolex).

2. If you owned the classic blue Omega, then you could own a classic black Rolex Sub and actually have a little variety in your collection.

That being said, it sounds like you really like the black...and because of that, it's probably best (for you) to go black as you'll probably always want that color. But don't forget about my suggestion...blue Omega, black Rolex...can't go wrong. Good luck.

I have the blue SMP GMT. I have been happy with the blue, but almost every other dive watch I own is black. I find myself drawn to the SM300 in black.

As far as the bracelet goes, you have a multitude of adjustment possibilities due to the use of both half and full links. Mine fits perfectly on my 7.5 in wrist.

Sounds to me like you're really concerned with what Bond wore. If so, you might not be satisfied with the black SMP as he only wore the blue one. This was probably an Omega decision as it is more noticeable in the close-ups as opposed to a typical black watch.

If you want a black Bond watch, then the 42mm PO would be the one to go for.

Thanks for all you invaluable advice. ^^

Today I went to AD with my friends to try Black and Blue. They all think the Black is better for me. I will probably go for Black, it does smile to me.

I am so happy now although I haven't owned this beauty yet. I have spent quite some time in choosing a right watch for me. I started to consider Tudor's chrono watch, then Tag Heuer's Aquaracer, and then Omega Speedmaster Date. These watches are great but when I calm down, I always find some reasons that hold my purchase. I felt quite tired in hanging around ADs and tried the watches. Until a friend of mine highly praised his 10 years old SMP, I turn my attention to SMP and I know that it is the ONE.

I will post some pics after I buy it. ^^

Let me ask a simple question - why not consider a Rolex Sub Date? As a satisfied Omega SMP owner for almost 8 years, I can state they are great watches & I think any watch lover should have at least one in their collection. But as a Rolex Sub/SD owner for a little over 1 year, I can also state that Rolex gets all my wrist time these days. It somewhat pains me because I love my Omega, but every time I put the SMP back on it only stays on my wrist for about 24 hours...then the draw of my Sub is just too great and I have to switch back. I can't explain it, I never would have thought I would love the Sub as much as I do, but I do.

Plus, the simple fact that you obviously love the black dialed watches only more points me to suggesting a Sub. If you were leaning more toward the blue, then this would be an easy choice IMO...but if you've got to go black dial/bezel, there is only one classic solution in my eyes, and that is Rolex all the way. Good luck.

I would not worry about Bond, if Omega is selling the black they will get that into the films (or the Planet Ocean)

Personally, I think the black is cool.

I owned a SD for one year, I love this watch so much, it is accurate and robust. However, Rolex is very very very very popular and common in Hong Kong. Many of my friends wearing the above sporty Rolex (I didn't notice this before buying my SD). I always meet several similar Rolexes for every gathering with my friends. The feeling is not so good.

Therefore I switch to Omega. I know that Omega is also a popular brand too. But the degree of popularity is acceptable to me. I expect I would meet people wearing Omega sometimes. Yes, just sometimes.

About my SD, finally I sold it. The selling price is US$700 more than my buying price. No wonder people like Rolex so much. It really the best brand to hold value.

Btw, I may not consider PO. It looks great on my wrist. However, I don't like its AR coating on the outside of the glass. The coating makes the dail looks so great when it is new, however, it seems the coating would get scatches too. I don't want to remove the coating myself, therefore I don't consider PO.

Black or Blue

I owned an SMP with the blue face for about a year. I put a rubber strap on the watch for diving (safer and more suitable for the rough and tumble of dive trips) and it looked quite odd. Now that there's a black version available I think I'll buy one and not have to put up with the rather dorky blue face/black strap combination.
Go for the black; it's more versatile.

Marty.

Up until a couple of months ago, I owned these three:

The white is my favorite of the sport GMTs and the "electric" blue is my favorite SMP. Unfortunately, the case of the GMT was too thick to wear comfortably on my wrist so it was replaced by my EXPII.

Then I could not justify having both the black and the blue so now I am down to the black:

The new black SMP is nice but I'm not a fan of the co-axial movement nor the skeleton hands. I much prefer the tried and true 1120 movement, the sword hands, and large markers. Plus, the lume is outstanding!

As for the Bond models, I consider "Bond blue" to be "blah blue" and the styling to already be dated. Omega seems to be acknowloging this opinion with Daniel Craig wearing a black SMP in Casino Royale and introducing the LE 007 SMP in black at Basel.

You just dont see as many Black ones as Blue, I think the black would set off the luminescence more in the evening or lower light conditions perhaps??
