Need some assistance here!!!!!!
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...5/DSC00439.jpg Need help in identification of this seiko.......Yes, Its upside down, Sorry. Approximate Value? I am looking at this watch......its a Tissot Seastar 1000. I am hoping someone here can identify weather it is a real or imposter. This watch would be purchased at a local auction house with no certificate or paperwork (watch only). From what I can tell, the hour and minute hands are different from the ones that I have been able to find which leads me to believe its a Replica. I dont know a thing about this brand of watch so I am at a total loss. The back of the watch has a solid case,( most of the ones Ive seen are glass back) and has writing such as "Seamaster", 660, saphire crystal, etc... I think the watch itself is quite impressive looking but I certainly wouldnt buy it for that reason. I would greatly appreciate anyones input here other than the fact that I should not buy it from a auction house, ( I know that part...). Any info. on the watch itself would be greatly appreciated. If you need some more info on the watch let me know and ill do what I can to provide... thanks, HC |

Sorry, I can't help with this at all. It is a good looking watch, though. Padi should be along soon, I'm sure he will be able to answer this for you

Padi's usually spot on with these things. He's seems to be a bit of a fan of Seiko so, I'm sure he'll know something about it

So far Ive been looking for about 2hrs. and still cannot find that watch (tissot) with a black face, grey bezel, and solid back. It appears all of the authentic Tissot Seastar watches sport a see through glass backing. I will assume this one to be a REPLICA unless someone can tell me different.......

Tissot probably ok
For a start, do they make fake Tissot's?!
The bezel and the writing on the dial look fine, and as it's a quartz it would make absolutely no sense for it to have a glass back. There's nothing worth looking at! I've seen Tissot Seastars here in the UK, really like them actually, but haven't seen any reviews or looked at their site. But with my limited knowledge I'd say it looks fine |

I agree with RobDad on the Tissot. It looks fine to me. I have seen ones online that look just like that one. But I doubt it's fake as I can't undertand why anyone would make a fake of a 'low-end' quartz diver.
I mean, I just saw an automatic Tissot SeaStar at my local Costco for CDN$480... and I know my AD sells them for about $900. So if they can sell an auto SS for $500 and make a profit, a quartz model should be much less... and keep in mind Canada has INSANE import duties on mechanical watches. |

Afraid don't know much about the modern day Tissots quite a old company founded in 1853.But the only version of the Seastar 1000 I know are auto with a ETA 2824 movement.Must say the hands and crown don't look like the Tissot norm. The quartz model are normally 3 register chronographs, there are quite a lot of fake Seiko's and most known brands now made in Asia.I would check on the Tissot web site to see if that model is there, if not would think its a cheap Chinese knock off.The Seiko looks
vaguely like the Arctura Kinetic but again looks like a Chinese copy

Rob's right on two counts. Unlikely anyone would knock off a Tissot. Not enough of a market for them. And why put an exhibition back on a quartz watch. Nothing to see but the battery and the circuit board. So the likelihood is that the Tissot is the real thing.
The Seiko OTOH, stay away from that fraud.

Thanks guys for all the help.....just goes to show what a amatuer I really am. I acutally thought the Seiko looked good and was probably the real McCoy. I still cant find much on the Tissot. It just bugs the heck out of me that I cannnot find something on this watch. I like it but my only intention would be to purchase it for resale so I may just pass this watch up unless it goes for $20 or some other rediculous price which happens on occasion. Im still kicking myself for not picking up a White Chanel J12 last week for $55.00. On the Tissot, would it say Swiss made on the dial even if its a Quartz movement???? Just wondering.
thanks again!!!!! HeLLCat |

Just a quick update........
The Tissot watch sold for $47.50 at auction and the Fake Seiko went for $55.00. Apparently everyone was more impressed with the Seiko. I did not purchase the watch (either of them) as I was unable to find the watch or one that even looked similar anywhere on the web. Since it was a Quartz, I would figure it would be alot less than the Auto. and since I resell I just did not think I could make enough profit from it even at that price. Have a great weekend...... This is a picture of the current Seastar. All references I have found on it say that it has an automatic (ETA) movement and display back. The price is around US$ 385 new. Why someone would want to make a fake out of this beats me, but it looks like it. Look at the crown and matt case. Or it is an older model now out of production.

They most definately make replicas of this watch.....that i know for sure. Hell, they make replicas of any brand for that matter. I found the same watches you did Frans which was the main reason that I did not make the purchase of this one. If I cant resell it knowing that its genuine I dont want it. I did find this in Quartz, but it still looked nothing like this one, for all I know this was a good watch that someone got an incredible deal on.
