more than 1 Rolex but no Sub
No Subs...blasphemy
Some of the responses are interesting. Saying only people who don't know watches wear Subs is a pretty narrow view. Like to think I am a WIS and have some knowledge of Rolex. At least that is my self perception. I have been wearing Rolex for 30 years. Tried most Rolex models over the years. At one point had a decent and diverse collection of 12 watches. Currently down to 3....all Subs [URL=http://s1290.photobucket.com/user/droptopman1/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-04/3CF3E15C-2CE8-4F31-A8E3-A931C2DAF698_zps2t4iizzz.jpg.html] I love Submariners!!! Wear what you love and who cares what others think.

Multiple Rolexes, but no sub here. Too common. I like something a little different, less common, and larger in size (42 to 44). That's why I got the D Blue as my go to king of divers.

Then, if they continue the watch hobby, Most everyone comes to a realization that there is a reason people think Rolex is the best, and there is a reason the Submariner is a classic . You keep telling yourself what you want, but this isn't punk rock, it's OK to like the popular stuff. |

For some reason the Sub I have feels right for life on and in the water. Sure, for my uses about any Rolex would fit the bill but something about the 14060 seems so perfect for the role. Maybe it's the simplicity which gives me an extra sense of robustness. Certainly the added depth tolerance adds to the security I feel at having it in the water. The fact that the pre-ceramic bezel insert is easily replaced also adds to the advantage.
As far as not having a Sub in a collection, my first Rolex was an OP. The sub was number two so I never went through time with a collection of greater than one without a Sub. For me a water person I can't imagine a watch collection without a dive watch. Sure, it could be a SD or other brand dive watch. For Rolex the Sub is the best bang for the buck. |

I feel its cultural.. I know lot of Asian folks, doctors, etc and they are little over 60 yrs and just own Datejust, Day-date and no sports models. I think sports model is more popular in US but if go to Asia or even middle east, they prefer those DJ bezels to show off their Rolex. Only younger folks buy sports models there and if buying with own money..by the time they buy they become old and prefer DJ etc. No wonder its the biggest seller.

Before I bought my Rolex.. I did not know much about the brand. For me.. when I thought of Rolex you think DJ.. or perhaps a YG president. I didn't even know the sub existed. I bought my Sub after a hard earned bonus 2 jobs ago. I simply wanted to get a nicer watch than what I had.. and of course I knew the Rolex name. When I started looking around and researching the brand.. I started looking at the DJ as I consider it as a name synonymous with Rolex.. and found other models such as the GMT, Explorer, Sub and others. Going back and forth I finally decided on a ND Sub.. a model I did not originally know about as someone "not into watches". I don't think it's fair to just group people who bought a sub as "not into watches" based on your limited interactions with others which represents a tiny slice of Rolex owners. I think the majority of people overall who own a Rolex of any sort are "not into watches"... well at least not as much as some of us are. We here at TRF represent a very small slice of the Rolex wearing population out there. Most of us here are into watches.. whether it's a large or small collection. |

I look at it as an either or,
Either a sub or a gmt, for me they look similar enough that I wouldn't want them both in the same modest collection. I always had more use for a sub in my daily activities vs a gmt. So I would say yes, a sub is essential

I've always wondered whether the Seiko would still be on my wrist if it had gone that way? |
