Price of used LV's? Dropping fast!

As I am sure many of you do, I always scan the for sale page to see what the market is doing and check out some cool pics of vintage watches.

I have noticed M-serial LNIB LV's are selling for $4500 to $4700 - this seems like a steal compared to retail prices.

Most people say they are selling to finance a new Rolex purchase. I personally like the LV alot, but wonder if some folks are tired of theirs?

Just an observation - any comments?

I bet lots are tired of them. Many are still thrilled, but I am sure there are just as many more, who are very weary of that stand out green bezel.

Agree, but I think the green bezel is cool, just not a big fan of maxi dial.

I agree - that was my main motivation for initially looking at them, but nobody seemed to know how many were going to be produced.

I was hoping they were going to be a limited edition - but not so. Got a SD instead.

Agree in inverse, don't like the green bezel, but think the maxi dial is cool.

Maybe people are a bit too capricious when it comes to their watches, probably caused from looking at pics of other models on TRF lol.

The LV is an absolutely stunning watch, my son was wearing his at the weekend & it looked awesome

One of the two I saw sold since I started the thread - maybe I should get a commission! Just kidding - the while purpose of the thread is because I thought they are great deals and can't believe the low cost. I love seeing other TRF'ers get good deals.

i LoVe my LV... but i wear it with smart casuals... not sure how it would look with business attire...

i think the older lv has a nicer colour... although some would disagree...

In 2004 on a shoot back in India a Time Mag had this watch a a centerfold. I really loved it, brought back the Time Mag and kep studying it for the next few years while saving. Even tried it on last summer. Didn't work - colour not timeless at all - plus the bracelet of those old Rolexes just feels cheap.

Might or might not feel the same way about my GMT IIc YG in a few years.

My advice would be get it if that colour does it for you. But as an investment - don't.

I'd be interested to know how many LV's have been sold compared to regular Sub's. I've had mine for about 18 months now and can honestly say I have never seen anybody else wearing one. Not bothered about the price bought it because I like it although I was tempted with a Daytona I tried on a couple of weeks ago but that moment has passed and I'll hold on the LV

LV prices have been dropping steadily for a while now. Can't comment on why though.

Just noticed your comment, aren't they all the same colour, I looked at a new LV a couple of weeks ago when I tried the Daytona on and it looked exactly the same colour as mine.

The LV is a bit funky, and certainly not for everyone, and that's the point. But then, the 1655 (orange hand explorer) was also considered too 'out there' when it first came out, and look at the value of that watch now.

When has Rolex ever made a limited production. The LV is as close as it gets these days. I think they will stop making them in a year or so when the Submariner changes to the new case in stainless and the LV will be very rare indeed. Much more so than the current SD. It will be the only maxi dial Submariner model ever made in the smaller case. Once people realize that I do not believe the prices will be lower. I will keep mine anyway because I like it. It isn't the only Submariner I have and certainly not the only diving watch, but it is a keeper.

As was also mentioned, look at the 1655. Not exactly a rare reference, but pricing today?? In some sence the same can be said about the 1680 WHITE, 5513 even the 1675.

Most people today look at the microcosm of the here and now. -- The quick buck--. Any reference that eventually becomes a true collector's piece does so over time as the collecting community evaluates the watches place in the overall scheme of things.

The jury is still out on most any reference that is current production.

The price is definitely favorable for used ones. The ones I saw in that price range were Z-serials, and M's still selling for low 5's.

When it was first made in 2003, people were under the mistaken impression that it would be a limited edition model. Five years later, I think reality is setting in. In fact, I think it's hitting a lot of the models quicker now - for example, a year ago the Milgauss sold for a 50% premium over MRSP but now the premium has almost disappeared. Also, I hear the resale premium for the S/S Daytona has shrunk - not drastically but appreciably. So it isn't affecting only the LV Sub.

I sold my LV after a year to finance my platinum YM. I will admit that the idea of it being less common was a lure for me. I did like the green, but I honestly would not have bought it if I had to do it over.
