Omega took their ubiquitous Speedmaster line from 40mm to 42mm, and then to 44.25mm. I have the latter and love it.

I originally saw the SD43 as an experiment. I thought Rolex would offer the new size SD along with the old one, but no. They killed off the 40 and will only offer the 43 going forward. So they'll see how it's received in the new larger size. There is no law saying they can't go back to 40mm and call the SD43 a multi-year experiment. Yeah, the SD43 is probably here to stay. Seems well received so far.

The Explorer II goes larger, to 42mm. Seemingly out of the blue. Datejusts have gotten bigger versions. What's next? This seems to be a trend. Either Rolex is trying something to shake up the market or they're responding to a trend they see. I think it all adds up to a 42mm GMT Master. I want one. Pepsi please.

The GMT II is already the perfect size for a sports watch for most. I don't see this happening.

No. The one now is large enough.

I hope they'll leave it alone! The 40mm maxi-case is a perfect fit for my 7 1/2 " wrist. Slightly larger 41-42mm divers are equally at home. Anything larger than 42 (other than plastic) or smaller than 39 begins to look a bit off.
Bottom line, I believe 40 works for most folks so why change it?

I'm perceiving the same thing but am unaware of any empirical support (i.e. Sales stats etc). Is this just your opinion or is there actual support for this view?

Just look at the number of Panerai boutiques that have closed...sales have plummeted. Just one example...

Very Very interesting. Didn't know that as I don't follow panarai. I wonder if prices are coming down?

I could see the size increasing to accommodate the newer movements but I really hope not. IMO the 40mm maxi case is perfect, it wears big enough that those with average wrists don't feel that it is too small, but the lug to lug measurement is small enough not to hang off smaller wrists.

I hope not! 40mm is the sweet spot IMO.
