Always enjoy reading. Excellent article, moreover, the facts cited therein should not only by known by current Rolex owners, but by prospective owners as well. (Or for those wondering what makes the brand so special.)

I've seen this article before, but it was definitely worth reading again. Rolex is the Apple of the watch business (or Apple is the Rolex of the tech world). It reinforces that you get what you pay for.

I remember this article came out a few years back... close to the time I got my first Rolex.

Not that I needed anymore motivation at the time, but it was nice to read.

Exactly advertising today myself call it brain washing fact Rolex make fantastic watch but so do many others today.

1. They Use An Expensive And Difficult To Machine Steel Because It Looks Better

Well in the real world 904L in today's mainly pampered watches show little or no real advantage over 316L and other watch manufactures use it like Xtrosleleton. The main and only difference between 316L over 904L it has slightly more Molybdenum(Mo)approx 2% more, approx 1-2% more Crome(Cr) 1% more copper(Cu) and approx 10% more nickel and thats it.

2. Rolex Has Its Own Science Lab.

So does most other watch manufactures even Seiko.

3. Their Movements Are All Hand-Assembled And Tested.

Considering Rolex now makes well over 850000 units a year I would say they are still highly automated or have a very very high work force of watchmakers.

4. An In-House Foundry Makes All Their Gold.

Quite true but they still got to out source the gold ingots and pure 24 Ct gold ingots are the same no matter where it comes from out of the gold mines. But expect they can keep better quality control and could work out cheaper to manufacture your own.

9. It Takes About A Year To Make One Rolex Watch

Thats just like saying carlsberg makes the best Larger in the world. {probably.}

10. Rolex Makes Virtually Everything In-House.

So do many others like ETA and Seiko.

Rolex makes all their own gold !!

No wonder they have a big safe if they have learnt how to make gold. Poor wording as like Padi says, they work all their own gold yes, but someone has to supply it.

On the subject of a watch taking a year to build, I assume this is taking into account making all the moving parts, and screws etc. I could believe it takes nearly a year then if the total of all the parts and processes were totalled up.

They might not offer the best value but they make the best watches for what I value in a timepiece.
