GMT 16710 date display doesn't fully turn after midnight

Hi, any of you guys exprienced this? My 16710's date only turns half about 2 minutes past midnight. I have to turn the hour hand past 2am for the date to completely turn itself. Some nights it turns fully though. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the power reserve. Il post pics tonight if this happens again.

I guess so. My 16710 is almost 10yrs. This will be its first time to get serviced. My 16613 is also as old but never had a problem except that it runs +9sec per day.

Would you know the price range for servicing it?

Rolex uses a cam system, and sometimes they can get a bit dry so it could take and extra minute or so for the jewel to slide off the cam it does not indicate a problem with the watch. You could try cycling the date around a few times might cure it but being 10 years I would recommend a full service.

Normal service for my omega moonwatch was about $950. Never had issues with my 16710 until recently. Will schedule the service asap then.

No, it has nothing to do with power reserve. The mainspring does not power the date wheel.

There is a flat-spring slapper that is cocked as the watchworks turn. At around midnight, give or take a few minutes, the release mechanism cam releases the slap spring and it literally slaps the date wheel ahead one day.

Generally, when it only goes halfway it is because there is some drag on the datewheel, usually too much oil, or not enough. It has no actual bearing on the functioning of the watch and is not doing any damage. Most of the time, after a few hours it settles into it's proper place.

The fix is to take the date wheel out, clean it, and put it back together.

I find Rolex watches in my collection tend to be in need of less service then everything else I own, the issue I had was with my Submariner somehow water vapor got into it causing the dial to flake. Probably because one of the gaskets lost their integrity. I also learned that day that whenever you buy a new watch to at least change all the gaskets it's fairly inexpensive and it can really save you big money down the road if you don't want to do a full service.

I think with your watch a routine service will fix the problem easily anyway best of luck... cheers

It would be almost impossible to replace all the gaskets without a full movement out of case strip down.

So I guess it's either a full service or don't bother that's good advice thank you. I had a watchmaker tell me once that you can change out gaskets only but based on your experience I would value your opinion more so than his.
