*****The OFFICAL Not Fans of the BLNR Thread*****
Since airing my views about being bored with my BLNR back in April and then flipping it yesterday, it seems I'm not alone in not being a fan. I bought into the hype of the watch instead of purchasing for the love of the timepiece itself. I don't think I'm alone there either.
Therefore, this thread is for TRFers to come out of the closet and publicly admit that they are not fans of this reference. There will be no hating on the BLNR though; we don't want any 'it's breath smells, it stinks of pee and it's mum dresses it funny" stuff. That's not cool, it's unacceptable and against the spirit of my (tongue-in-cheek) thread. Please be guided by the wise and profound words from Grady in my signature below. It's just a thread where we can safely admit to not being fans without fear of being pelted with wet kippers and congealed custard, that's all

It's a fantastic beater and definately more functional than my 116655. Time Zone difficult to read but it's definately not as boring as say a submariner or SD

I thought this was another "The Official.....show me your BLNR thread". LOL!
Just my own view. Not a fan of the gimmicky blue part of the bezel. It gives a toy like look to the watch. Part of the reason why I chose the LN instead of BLNR. Some like the blue, some don't. I would have prefer Coke. Other than that, it an amazing GMT watch. |

Seems the spirit of the thread is lost already. It's not a thread for bashing the BLNR or saying that's it's better than another reference.
And no, the Sub is not boring. If someone buys and flips four times then the issue is most certainly not with the watch.

Genuinely curious to see how many members have negative opinions about it. It seems like a real fan favorite around here. I think it's a fantastic reference. I also love the LN.

Lol this is a hysterical thread and I feel like I can finally admit to not liking the BLNR without putting on my flame suit first. I'm not sure why I don't like it because in theory it has everything I want but at the same time it just doesn't do it for me.....Wow that felt good.. This is like an anti BLNR support group haha

A doomed, and pointless thread from the start.
We all, or should, understand not everyone has the same taste (In anything!). Why try to gather numbers one way or another? Is it to feel vindicated in reasoning, or just plain naivety? This forum is about a common interest, not a common dislike?! It's ok to not like a reference of watch, but why dwell on the negative, when there is so much more positive out there, for all tastes! The whole connotation of the thread (thread title in particular) , just screams dissension. I don't foresee a good direction, or topic trend. Still open for now...'OFFICIALLY'. Ruud, I'm a fan, but this isn't one of your best.....

'Tongue & Cheek' aside, where do you go with an 'official' hate on the BLNR.? Would that be a positive thread, or one that provides a divide? Experience tells me, the topic will spiral.

I personally find the bezel extremely busy and the size of the numbers to be a tad bit too big. Rather than focusing on the dial when I look at it, the bezel distracts me. But I'm also not a big fan of the PCLs on this watch. If I wanted PCLs, I'd go for something like a Bluesy.
In general though, we all have different tastes and I can understand the excitement about the watch. To each his own. |

Ok, I''l bite, since I owned the BLNR for a bout 4 months. The BLNR was a fine piece, and I got many compliments however, it does not have the glidelock, so it made it difficult wearing it while on my wrist while diving.
Also, because it wore so low on the wrist and because I have somewhat bony 7" wrist, the lug cut into my skin. Also, it did feel a bit light compared to the Sub. Purely subjective. The one thing I did like, was when I didn't need the glidelock, it was a a very comfortable Rolex. A sub for me is is just a better all-a-rounder, and daily for any occasion.

I started this thread for a giggle, that's all. I did say extremely clearly that I didn't want it to be a hate thread and, in doing so, deliberately pointed to Grady's most excellent statement, which I use with his kind permission, in my signature. As I've said previously in a number of threads it is now readily apparent to me that I bought into the hype of the BLNR as opposed to buying it out of a love for the watch. By all the laws of common sense, I should love it. I'm an ex-professional navigator, I live eight (sometimes seven) time zones from home and I travel extensively. On paper, it's the perfect watch. However, I just couldn't bond with it; it would most certainly get left behind in a zombie apocalypse. I do not (and I'm being deadly serious here) understand what my beef is with the BLNR. I was also hoping someone might offer an insight as to why that might be so. Anyhoo, on reflection, I guess starting this thread wasn't one of my brightest ideas so I offer another mild apology and perhaps it's best if it's locked before it does spiral in the wrong direction.

If I was to buy a GMT I rather get the LN, I think the BLNR is trying to hard and looks cartoony...but then again I have the GV and Explorer II polar...so what do I know.

Are you feeling guilty for flipping it already? Do you need the groups approval?

I don't need the approval of others to act; I'm my own man and I know my own mind. If I needed the approval of the forum, I would have sought that before acting. I did what was the right thing for me and posted about it here afterwards, so your second question is quite pointless.
