I'm planning to buy a white gold Rolex, what precautions do you guys suggest I take? I'm going to have it verified by a dealer before buying. If that goes ok and it has all papers etc is there anything to worry about?

Avoid a previously polished watch

Spend some time on Chrono24 and WatchRecon to get a lay of the land. Look at trusted sellers so you have an idea of what prices are now.

Unless verification includes taking the watch apart, how do you know there are not non-Rolex parts?

I suggest buying from a seller / dealer / AD with whom you do not need to take "precautions."

This is a very important consideration. If a seller has taken in a watch on trade, you cannot be absolutely certain that a prior, non-RSC service didn't utilize generic parts, thereby making it a frankenwatch. It's a gamble, and you may not find out about it, if ever, until you take it to a RSC or a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account. I have read a number of horror stories over the years involving this type of problem.
It may be different if the watch is a BNIB purchased from an AD by a trusted TRF seller; otherwise, I would approach your proposed purchase with caution.

A watchmaker I know who works at an AD..told me 3 mos ago..he got in a gold Rolex..with about 1/3 of the parts replaced with non Rolex parts..so it's buyer beware..

Buy from one of the trusted sellers here, research them. The weight is a giveaway but there could be fake parts on the watch too which only RSC could verify, I would not rely on an AD's watchmaker.

Yes I think my main concern is non Rolex parts inside but it's only a year old watch so it should not have been serviced yet.

My uncle's son left the stem unscrewed and pulled out while swimming with a new Rolex. Of course, it was damaged. A used gold Rolex represents an expensive bet.

You're simply speculating. It's possible that a service was necessary due to water penetration, a defective part, the watch having been dropped, or some other mishap.
