Please help me choose a Rolex for my assistant!
My paralegal has been very loyal to me for years, and I'm ready to reward her with a brand new DateJust 31. I know I want a stick dial and a jubilee band, but I can't decide what color dial. Her current watch (Citizen) has a white dial. She bought another off brand watch, and it has a black dial. I have a DateJust 41 with a blue dial, and that blue dial really sings to me. I can think of reasons for any of these three choices. At the end of the day, which would you suggest?

Id go with black. It can be worn with any color outfit, its classy, and those sticks really pop out

White for a lady. It can also go with everything.

That blue looks so good. I'd go with that or the black as it will be easier to read.

Black, white or silver...any will be great. Definitely not blue as it is the most limited for matching with clothes.

black dial is most versatile imo. My first Rolex was a DJ2 Black dial & it was the most striking dial at the AD.

I hope you're not married on this one. Does she admire your watch enough that you feel she'll love having a Rolex herself? She may just as soon love a $6-7K bonus check. But, if a BNIB DJ it is, and of the 3 choices, I'd vote black, then white, then blue.

The blue I'd avoid since you have one yourself. A matching set IMO constitutes camaraderie between men but a more intimate relationship for man and woman (double-standard, I know... but that's just how the world is with first glances).
I think the best question though is which do you see her wearing more often? The white citizen or the black off brand? Whichever one is more prevalent is probably what she coordinates with her attire the most. |

Of the choices you've listed I would suggest either black or white, both neutral colors that go with anything. BUT, I would suggest you consider the silver dial, which (in my opinion) is a richer look that also goes with anything.

Very fair question. I considered the same. Her husband is a pilot and they are very financially secure, so she doesn't need a check. I hope I'm not violating forum rules by answering your question, but let's just say hypothetically that her "off brand" black dial watch is a non authentic watch with a very, very famous name. She greatly admires my DateJust 41, and I want her to have the real thing.

See if you can make arrangements with manager of store to have all three available. Give her a gift certificate after payment in full that is coded for manager to pull out all three and ask her to pick one. Take her to lunch, give her gift certificate and then stop by store in way back to work.

Take her for lunch and have your AD have the 3 watches out for her to try on”tell her it’s for your wife” and then surprise her with the one she chooses

I'm buying from a very trusted seller here on these forums. Same seller I bought my DateJust 41, so unfortunately, I won't be able to let her pick. I have to pick for her.

Have you considered the Rhodium dial to add to the line up?

With her recent purchase being a black dial watch, it seems that is where her tastes might lie. I vote black!

I didn't realize that was an option. I'm off to the official site to see. Thanks for making my problem worse!!

According to the official site, rhodium is only available with a roman dial, and I don't want to do a roman dial. Silver is available with a stick dial, but I don't see myself picking silver.
