It is another watch that only Klingons can tell the time from (Try urwerk.com). But is it bling?

I do believe she want's one, but will "settle" for one in the midsize category as she feels it is a bit to large for her. (Good for me!). Not only that, it was her gift to me so she couldn't deal with the guilt of taking it away.

I suppose the latter could not realisticaly be described as "bling" but as "avant garde" or "haut horology" - not quite as bad as bling - because these watches (whilst often being a bit daft or ugly) are at least entertaining or interesting. Bling is just tasteless.

The SS/YM Yachtmaster will never be bling. Bling refers to diamonds....anything that sparkles, and nothing on the YM comes close to that. This is the problem with the general population (incorrectly) using a dead slang word in order to feel 'young' again.

I wouldn't call either Bling. They are over engineered. To me Bling is big and shiny and flashy.

I too am a very proud owner of a SS Platinum YM. I have never referred to it as bling, but I am scratching my head here trying to figure out what the big deal is for those that do. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Frankly, I think YM is not so popular because it is so expensive and most aren't willing to dish out the extra cash for it. If everyone could afford a YM, I can assure you that the majority of the biggest critics would be running to get one.
Cheers to the YM! |

Look, the YM's bi-directional bezel ensures that it can't be a serious diver's watch like the Sub but I have gone swimming in the ocean with it numerous times. It is clearly a sport's watch, with the added appeal that it is dressy, too. Definitely not "bling."
Plus, for women (at least for women who, like me, are not willing to wear a man's watch) it's the only professional ladies' model that Rolex makes. |

Sorry, but I don't believe that to be the case. There are a lot of Rolex watches as expensive and even more so than the YM that sell faster and hold better value. The styling has never appealed to me so its unlikely I'd ever wear one regardless of the price. I might, however, get one for my wife because it has a sportier look than her DJ without being a full size sports watch. But that's why Rolex makes a wide variety. One style is not going to appeal to everyone.

Totally agree. I'd say a solid gold Datejust is bling, a gold Sub with diamonds (serti dial) is more bling and a Leopard-skin Daytona is very bling. But the "Platty'' Yachtmaster is not bling at all.
I must add that I own one myself and have friends who would buy one for themselves at the bling - oops I mean blink - of an eye if the price was right. |

There have been a couple of postings on TRF stating that the YM will soon be discontinued, but nobody can confirm this. If it is going to be discontinued, then maybe it will become a collectors item... sooner or later!
PLEASE IGNORE THIS COMMENT. IT WAS MEANT FOR ANOTHER THREAD.
