Few questions to ask, thank you in advance

Rolex newbie here, but quite an Omega guy though.

I have a budget of 4 - 4,5 K GBP for a first Rolex. I really like the look of Explorer 16570, so plenty of choices there, with or without papers. So far, so good. Even you can get it on a 12 months lease when buying from Goldsmiths or Watchfinder, no matter that they sell them really expensive, but with piece of mind as providing 12-24 months of warranty and full service before supplying the watch.

I was thinking...well, to be honest, the bracelet of these Explorers 2 is not the greatest,I know it`s comfortably probably most of you will say, but majority of the watches are with folded end links. Even the ones with the SELs, they still have the cheap looking and feeling flimsy , Tissot thin buckle ,which I personally more likely don't appreciate at all.

And this brings me to the core of my emotional battle with myself , particularly part 1 - why I just don't pay like 300-400 more and get a brand new Explorer 214270 with lumed indices and longer hands ? It`s 4800 GBP brand new. I will get a supreme bracelet ( comparing to the old bracelet, and not only to it, but majority of watches), great clasp, micro regulation , fresh lume, brand new movement and full set. But then I have to ditch both the date and the GMT function.

Then going to part 2 - I have worn a Tudor Black Bay for a while. The caseback and the edges of the case - sharp and kind of uncomfortable compared to Omegas design, is the feeling of wearing a Rolex ( no offence here, just asking honestly) similar to wearing a Tudor watch as they both have similar design?

Thank you very much for all future questions, bless you and excuse my English.

Have a great weekend.

Great and IMO wiser idea to buy new. Never tried the Explorer so cannot comment on comfort. My SD4000 is super comfy though.

I have a Tudor Blackbay and Rolex GMTII and the Rolex is so much more comfortable to wear than the Tudor. The thicker profile of the Tudor makes it feel slightly top heavy compared to the Rolex and the Rolex bracelets are superior compared to Tudor

My advice, wait a bit longer, save a bit more money and buy a new Explorer II. You won’t have trouble finding a new Explorer II either, although there is SS Sports shortage in UK the Explorer II don’t seem to be as popular for some weird reason and most ADs have both colours ready to go

Thank you for the advice, but I don't like the size of 216570 , also I don't see any value justification to pay 5950 GBP for a model which is not as desired as the great sibling GMT master ( green hand) which is only 300 GBP more expensive and with a better size of 40 mm comparing to Exp 2.

Too bulky for me, IMHO.

Thank you for your advices and opinions, please keep them coming.

The 214270 does not wear like the Black Bay. Slimmer and more contoured case. That's the way I'd go. Pretty much perfect all-arounder.

I have both Rolex and Tudor and feel they are at the pinnacle of comfort in their price ranges. I would also pick Tudor over Omega, but that’s just me. If you have any hesitation about Rolex, don’t. Once you get it on your wrist, you will understand.

The Rolex 78790 bracelet is a time-tested Rolex classic. I don't agree with your sentiments on it.

I have a Black Bay and Explorer. While they wear different, I have never had any comfort issues with them. If you like the case size and functions of the 16570 Explorer II, I would go that route, get one with SEL and you can swap the clasp for a newer easy link clasp or glidelock clasp if you want. Don’t settle for something that you’ll only be partially happy with, as you’ll eventually buy what you want anyway.

I own a sub no date 14060m and an explorer 2 16570, the one you like. I have an D serial (2005) with SEL the sub has hollow end links. The explorer 2 bracelet fits my wrist perfectly. And I like the simplicity of the clasp. My advise would be find some where where you can try it on. The feeling that you get by trying it on will tell you what to do.
