Question about RSC and vintage watches
How does RSC handle replacement parts for vintage watches? Let's say someone brings them a 1675 or a 5513 (matte dial) and wants as much replaced as possible. Does Rolex still manufacture a small amount of vintage dials, hands, bezels, etc, for purposes like this or how do they handle things like that?
Apologies if this is a dumb question. |

I do not know the answer to the question but I am not sure how anyone could manufacture vintage parts. Part of what makes something vintage is time, not marketing.

I apologize if I was unclear. I didn't mean manufacturing parts in a way to make them appear aged or vintage. I meant does Rolex manufacture a small amount of new matte dials specifically for a 1675 that looks like one they would have produced in the 60's?

Rolex would replace original parts with service parts.
For dials the type of replacement varies according to the reference and when it stopped production. For example a White 1680 service dial replicates the original dial in that it does not have white gold surrounds but it would either be luminova or a "toothpaste" type substance on the markers, that has a similar appearance to tritium. The 5513 prior to production stopping had a dial with white gold surrounds, so service replacement dials have them even if the original dial did not. There are font differences between original and service dials. Unless there was a significant issue with the dial or hands, I'm not sure why anyone now would seek to replace the originals as much of the value of a vintage piece is in the original dial and hands. |
