Geophysic Tourbillon Universal Time- ultimate world time piece
I have an opportunity to purchase this piece. I have been looking for a world time piece. This JLC is so interesting. Floating tourbillon in which the carriage is fitted with a Gyrolab balance wheel that performs a complete rotation each minute. The orbital flying tourbillon makes one complete turn of the dial every 24 hours. Even more surprisingly, the tourbillon takes the entire dial with it on its journey.
Platinum and limited to 100 pieces. Here are some photos and a link to a video. Any comments or thoughts? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxtGFGjoFoY |

My opinion might not be that helpful, since it seems I’m the only one in the world who doesn’t go ga-ga over the PP 5131. That said, while I appreciate that this watch is “cool,” it seems awfully busy for regular wear. A more traditional 2 TimeZone GMT seems far more useful to me.
The movement view through the case back is basically a full plate and a rotor. While the finishing is nice, the view is pretty uninspiring. The market for these is small, and those with $100k+ to buy a wold timer seem to want one from PP. I think if you pay anywhere within 75% of retail, you will get killed trying to resell it later. This is one I’d be fine appreciating but not owning. Just my $0.02. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Same watch without the tourbillion costs one-tenth the price. If you like it and can afford it,it’s attractive. I personally would not spend that much on a watch.

Cool Watch Dude!
But are you sure you don't want the VC or the PP world time? |

I have the rose gold version of this watch (minus the tourbillon) and it is one of my favorite pieces. That said I went into the purchase understanding that if I ever did decide to part with it I would take a decent hit. But its an interesting piece and for watch nerds like us it is fascinating to look at and talk about with others. I think in terms of world time pieces it is the most aesthetically pleasing currently in production and it is top notch.
Challenge that is going to come up of course if the price tag and comparable watches at that price and the fact that JLC in terms of perceived value and status are below those of PP/AP. But all of that doesn't matter if you have the money and can afford the watch. Will certainly be a piece that strikes up a conversation. |

To be honest I prefer the non tourb version, also the movement is really underwhelming, for much less I would get a duometre, now they have a beautiful movement, and there would be money left to get another very nice watch. To be honest this one does nothing for me

Denver centurion and laprince..
I like the non tourbillon too but what really bugs me is the seconds had and its quartz like movement When the secondhand ticks it does not always align with the marker and that bugs me.. |

True, for me that was a weird complication of the watch that I really liked. Even though it is a mechanical watch the second hand ticking gives the illusion of a quartz movement, it certainly adds to the conversation when you talk to people.
That said if you are spending that much on a watch a gripe about the alignment of the seconds hand is not absurd, the watch should be perfect and all the little details should be aligned right. That is just the difference between JLC and PP/AP. Ultimately the watch makes me happy and is still my favorite world time that is produced so I have no regrets since I wanted that complication for a long time. So if you are after a tourb specifically I think you are going to find better options, if you are looking for both a tourb and a world time I think you have the magic ticket. |

Can you confirm that even with quartz like ticks-- second hand does not align on the Geophysics?

Watchucallit - Just wound mine up and inspected it for a few minutes, my seconds hand is lining up just fine with the markers on the dial.
However, it looks like there is a completely different dial design between the standard and the tourb version. |

Thanks.. Yes i know there is a difference in the dial design and there are no second or minute markers on the tourbillon. That is clearly a deal breaker for me. If the second hand ticks on target maybe i should just go with the non tourbillon

My bad I completely misread your previous posts about the dial and markers. Ultimately its a terrific piece and the non-tourb version is a fraction of the price with rose gold at $25k and the SS at $15 (retail) I have seen them pop up on secondary for obviously less than that and I received a discount from ad purchasing new. Might be something to grab when someone like DavidSW gets another in stock.

I honestly really like the tourbillon. The guilloche dial and the rotating gyro tourb.. but the lack of minute markers... just kills me.. LOL

the most important question....how much are you getting this for? If you are going to be spending USD 50K+++ i'm not sure it would be worth it. If you are getting a stellar deal on this (25Kish), then definitely go for it. It indeed is beautiful.
