Aftermarket or Original Inserts and Plexiglass 1680?
Hi guys, I am new to VRF and I am buying my first Rolex 1680. Case and dial look good but How’s the Other? Insert and plexiglass? Some friends told me that it is aftermarket😢😢😢
Thank you in advance for the feedback. Attached Images |

Insert is service and the crystal is aftermarket.

OP, maybe this is obvious information but I've learned from being on this forum that when it comes to vintage Rolexes, you have to decide what's important to you. If you're more of a purist, you'll prefer all original, unpolished, and so on. Others may be ok with service/replacement parts. It might be hard to tell sometimes whether parts are original or after-market.
Sorry if that's information that's already known, but I didn't know how to approach it until about a month ago when I was looking for a 1680. I didn't really mind replacement parts--the dial was the main thing for me, and I was looking for daily beater that wasn't the most commonly-seen Rolex out there, even if I'm the only one that notices it. Hi all, I’m a new member (today) but have been around for a long time and have bought and sold numerous Rolexes over the years but really never kept one for any length of time for some reason. I did however just get a reasonably priced 1680 from 1979 and I’m having a similar dilemma. Original matte dial, original (I think) hands that are somewhat darker than dial and I believe an original top hat crystal. The bezel insert is a replacement. So I’m trying to decide how far I want to go to better match the hands to the dial and get an insert that is correct for the watch.

Not a fan of service inserts. I’d rather have a well abused period correct insert than a service or non period correct insert.
