Cheap mechanical comeback.

So in this weekend's paper there was the expected innundation of 'father's day' based flyers. One from the Hudson's Bay Company (oldest retailer in North America, we call it simply, The Bay) and they had a full page of cheap mechanical watches.

They had advertised a Seiko 5 for $189.00, a Bulova auto for $199.00 a Citizen (accutron? no battery) and get this... a Timex auto with power reserve for $180!

While this may not seem like a big deal, you have to understand that until I saw this ad, I had not seen a mechanical watch BNIB for sale in Canada for less than $800. At these pricepoints, it seems the resurgence of mechanical watches is on a strong come back.

BTW, noted that the manager of my local cycling shop was wearing a Tissot SeaStar. Beauty!

Does this mean I should dump my stock holdings in quartz watch companies?

Ed your a Lawyer you read and speak between the lines everyday, what do you think?

Ed, I'd like you to license for me 50 years of air supply. I know it sounds silly but, before long your going to have to buy air to breath.... so, why not get started today?

They already sell scented air in the malls..... so I want to be sure I can get my normal pure or air as it is today reserved for tomorrow!

That's the one, Peter. THey also had the black dial displayed too.

Not the best looking finish, but hey, for under $200 how can you complain? I'm tempted to pick one up out of curiosity to see how well it keeps time and how it will last. Timex mechanicals (from the 60s) are part of what got me interested in watches.

Hey, Rolex and Timex both end in 'ex' and they both tell time.

They gotta be about the same, right?

Geez, John, when I saw the thread title I thought you were talking about some troll or other.

That Timex looks like pretty good value, but that dial would look so much nicer without the extra 24-hour hand and that ring in the middle. The plainer the better, I say.

Ya see, that's where we differ, James. I think it's a great looking dial. Just crowded enough to make it interesting. None of this plain Jane garbage.
