Watch in service. RSC's making me nervous, or am I being a ninny.

This is the Rolex Service Center directly (not a retail shop) in NYC. Watch is an Oysterquartz. Got some water in it. Took it in. I'm told it's fine, but watch is due for a service regardless. $700 quote. I say sure, go for it. With 2 requests:

1) please line up the seconds-hand with the minute markers. RSC emailed and said that's not possible, because it's a sweeping second hand. That would be true if it was not a Oysterquartz, but since it is an Oysterquartz (and my watch, that I wear) I know the hands tick, and can be aligned (they once were). I stated as such in my response.

-Thought Options here: (a) service person just didn't know what they were taking about, so no biggie; or (b)... mild concern (see asterisk below before answering)?

2) don't round the edges, please. Case and bracelet are about 90% IMHO (photo below) condition already, so really hardles needs polishing. So I'm thinking, should be easy enough to not screw up. RSC email and said polishing "may remove some of the sharpness around the case edges as metal is being removed, however it is very slight."

-Thought Options here: (a) sure, makes sense, just normal ass covering, it'll be fine; or (b) tell them not to polish since I'm fine with it, and if the day comes send it to somebody around here with a solid reputation?

*Watch got wet because RSC didn't screw the base back on correctly when they changed the battery about 6 months ago.

NY is absolutely top notch. I don’t get the negativity surround them. They are human beings and can mis speak at times and I’m sure the associates don’t know everything about every model. But be rest assured that when it gets in the hands of the watchmakers, they are the best and will take care of it.

OP, the above poster believes in every person working at RSC NY so much he will back it up with his own wallet should anything go wrong, he’s that confident

You have to clarify with RSC before you give them the go ahead to service your OQ. They already put you in a position once, let them go at it willy nilly this time at your peril.

I agree. I always request a “do not polish” when sending my watches for RSC service. It’s not because I don’t trust their polishing; rather, at the expense of scratches here and there, prefer to keep factory lines and finish.

Hypothetically if I resided in NYC, I would ship my watch to the Dallas RSC.
Sorry, but I have seen too many "unfortunate occurrences" with NYC RSC.

If the RSC doesn’t line up the hands I’d be surprised. The person you spoke with may not have been the actual watchmaker.

It sounds like they cut and pasted from stock responses without giving it much thought. I think most of (a) except "it'll be fine" but go with (b).

I agree with this. The chances of a phone rep understanding watchmaking is slim.

I would recommend a service but NOT refinishing. Your watch doesn't need it.

Thank you, everybody for the replies (and compliments). Good thoughts. I’m going to skip the polish. It is in such nice condition it doesn’t need it and I don’t want to risk losing any edges when I’ve no compelling trade-off or need for taking that risk.

Seems like I made a good choice sending my Tudor to Dallas. Just kidding, I'm sure the RSC in NYC is great as well. Mistakes happen
