A late Father’s day story…

I am reporting this well after Father’s day, but still feel that it’s worth posting so here we go…

I recently put a stop to all my watch flipping as you can see in this thread: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=607348

I was super happy with the collection the way it stood, except I always loved the Blue Tudor Nylon Strap but had no watch for it. The quality is second to none and the midnight blue color is stunning, but I sold the Black bay twice to fund other purchases and as you can see in the thread above I had painted myself into a corner with my self imposed watch rules. lol

So I bought this to put the strap on and it looked great, but the strap cost almost as much as the watch : https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=610296

My wife has always been a part of my watch journey. I often times would consult with her on which bands to put on watches and possible trades. She was well aware that I had put an end to my watch flipping days and wouldn’t be adding anymore pieces. Being the thoughtful wife that she is my wife set out to buy me the Tudor Black Bay to commemorate my first Fathers Days (without any of my input). Since it was a boy she knew the Blue bezel was the one and it would be purchased the same year as my son was born so she really put a lot of thought into the process.

She located the only AD within our area and took our infant son alone to hunt down the watch. Once she finally was able to get to the store the sales lady pulled out the one in the display case. My wife took one look at the way she was handling the watch, with all her rings and long fingernails clanking against the watch, and told her “if my husband saw you handling the watch that way he wouldn’t buy it so I want you to order me a brand new one that is still wrapped!!”

She was doing all this hustle with texting, CC authorizations and so on all right under my nose with me not having a clue. When the day came I was completely blown away , and honestly put the watch away for a few days to think about it. My wife is not a spender at all. The most expensive items she has ever purchased (aside form car, apartment etc) have been the Explorer she purchased for me as a wedding gift and now this Black Bay. Also, as many of you may have experienced being new parents with one of you staying home to take care of the lil one the budget is a real thing. However, she reiterated to me that there is only one FIRST father’s day and this is a blue bezel birth year watch for me to wear as our son grows.

In the end I kept the watch because she had put so much thought into it, and of course I wanted to keep it since I am a WIS after all that had just closed the book on acquiring new pieces so this was like an awesome bonus.

I just wanted to share my amazing father’s day story and look forward to building memories with this already super sentimental piece as my lil guy grows up. One day he will receive the watch, perhaps on his first father’s day, and we can both thank the amazing women who he calls mom and I am lucky enough to call my wife.

Thank you for reading and without further ado my father’s day Tudor BBB on MY Blue Tudor Nylon Strap (I have the new strap tucked away with the unworn bracelet and the Seiko is on the chopping block) …

Thank you all for the well wishes and yes I am very lucky to have a wife that understands that these can be more than just timepieces.

They are reminders of a moment in time

I appreciate you all taking the time to read my story. I feel the Forum lately has become a bit obsessed with the value (msrp vs. Gray), limited availability at AD's, or the next collectible and we have forgotten how much we just enjoy watches for a multitude of reasons.

The watches we wear and the memories we build with them are what makes this hobby so enjoyable atleast for me.
