I honestly don’t think it’s worth the hassle to buy and try to sell it for $1k ish to $2k.. the risk/reward isn’t there for me.. buy and wear it if you like it and sell if you end up not liking it

I have both but for me it wouldn't be easy to pick one over the other. The BLNR is really great, relatively low profile, great travel watch with the GMT, a little fun with the black/blue bezel/PCLs and a true go anywhere, everyday watch. The SD43 is its bigger badder cousin. Larger all the way around but not ridiculously so (hello DSSD). Despite its size it actually wears smaller than it looks but still makes a statement. The new movement, matte dial with red writing, bigger case, bracelet makes it much different from a sub or GMT. While I know it's not an option for everyone to own both you should really think about the features you like best and certainly try them both on to compare.
My SD43 fits fine under a dress shirt cuff and doesn't look insanely out of place with a suit or sport jacket. It's by no means subtle but but you could wear it every day of the week without concern. IMG_5249 by Andrew Cohen, on Flickr Rolex SD43 by Andrew Cohen, on Flickr |

Would not be an upgrade for me, I would rather have a BLNR

If owning both is not an option then I would decide am I a GMT guy or a Submariner/SD guy. For me, I am a Submariner/SD guy. I own the SD43 and think its maybe the best Rolex Diver ever, for me, and I have owned them all. I like the size, bezel, dial, red text and even the cyclops. It does not wear too large, I have a regular to large wrist. If this is about flipping and making some money I would pass as it is not enough for me to be bothered and it is putting another watch from an AD into the Grey Market.

Not in my world! I thought the SD43 looked great when I tried it on but wouldn't want to live with it. If I pull the trigger on another Rolex a BLNR is still near the top of the choices.

Buy it if you like it, but not to flip. After tax, there is no money in this reference.
Secondary market prices on these SHOULD be dropping. They are too readily available to support the premium, that is why there is a bit of a glut on the secondary market... Rolex is still definitely limiting distribution on this reference, but SD aren't as popular so the chances of them sitting around are higher than other darlings This is a reference to be purchased @ retail because it is a watch you like and NOT bought at premium $$$ (too common) or with intention to flip (no profit)... |

Have your AD sell to me and ship it. The SD is on my list.

And IMHO that's exactly what's wrong with the Rolex watch hobby today. They are no longer watches bought because they are one of the finest mechanical watches made today .Now they are little more than ££££$$$$ bought hoping to make a fast profit. And what upgrade is it the price some are asking a upgrade to you.

Really a personal preference. I have a buddy that absolutely adores his SD and that is the only watch for him. I personally would keep the BLNR but I can see the “upgrade” appeal.
