graphite in 1680 movement??
My son has an early 70s 1680 that was serviced at an AD in Princeton NJ in Sept 2016. The watch was running way fast this past spring and so I dropped it off at the Princeton AD while visiting my son and they demagnetized the watch but it was still running around +14 sec/day. I said ok and left. Just recently, the watch was running way fast again. I checked it with a compass and witnessed no magnetic issues but demagnetized anyway at home. I then dropped off the watch at my New Orleans AD and the watchmaker said he found graphite in the movement? I quickly called the Princeton NJ AD to ask WTF and to confirm their two year service warranty. I will ship the watch to them next week. Anyone ever heard of graphite in the movement?

Not surprised by it however. |

I'm not a watchmaker, but the little I know about watchmaking is that you don't use random off-the-shelf lubricants... I use Graphite powder and WD40 (which happens to NOT be a lube, but that's another story) for my mechanical hobbies, but I would never think about spraying them in a watch...
oh well. |

Another favorite non-watch lubricant is 3-in-one oil...

Maybe, but outside a barrel (and I still wouldn’t use it on a wrist watch) it definitely shouldn’t be.

Hopefully someone didnt just open the case back, blow some powder graphite on the movement, seal it up and hope for the best.
