PP 5524 could be a good choice, very legible for aging eyes, good value retention, great for travel, etc. Good luck!

Take him to the store, if he likes watches as much as you say and reads about them all the time then I'm pretty sure he'd be more than happy to go fondle some! |

I respectfully doubt this post is for real, if I am wrong no offense to the OP.

How about any calatrava model? At his age, I assume that he may like something classic, dressy.

However I would let him chose the watch, don't think too much about the price as it isn't going to go anywhere and shouldn't deprecitlate too crazily in the event it wasn't going to be passed down throughout the family Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk |

The focus should be on what your father values. Is his most important focus on “things” or people?
Maybe a nice family cruise and making memories with his kids and grandkids would be more appreciated. For the price of a Patek you could get him the Presidential Suite on most cruises. But if it is a watch, I would not buy a Patek. I would focus on a Rolex or Cellini - and depending upon his wrist size - maybe 36mm rather than the monsters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

You can’t go wrong with a white gold Calatrava. Like the 5296G or 5153G.

The main issue is service times, and fortunately they are trying to remedy that, at least here in the US |

Even with Patek only a handful of models retains value well, most falls off a cliff just like any other brands. As for quality, if you go back and look at pictures of old Pateks, the beveling are wide and curved, signs of hand beveling, nowadays it's done with a machine tool and the beveling is more of a polished edge. It is more a machine manufactured movement than in the past.
Honestly, there are only a few Pateks in my opinion worth getting, 5131, PPC, various Nautilus models (don't like it personally but it's red hot in the market), and minute repeater. Other than that, for that money I would rather have a Rolex platinum Daytona as some suggested or even DD. It is a robust and accurate watch, plus the weight has a nice feel to it. |

Get a 3940 J. Iconic watch by Patek. Perpetual calendar. Great value. Perfect for a 75 year old man. Can be had for $40,000 or less. You will never lose significant money at that price point on a 3940.

I'm 75 so I guess that qualifies to say something. I have a PP calatrava 3520DR, white enamel dial. It is simplicity in itself. Hour hand, minute hand, that's it, no date or even a second hand. I wind it in the evening and it just runs and runs. It is the classic PP, 33 mm. Eyesight not what it was at 25, no problem. Someone else suggested both your dad and you go shopping. I second that. I personally enjoy the tactile pleasure of winding my PP. In the end it's his decision, his watch.
