I know it's an often asked question, but anyone care to speculate?

Well an anniversary watch is always produced in limited numbers and it's not massively produced
That's the point of anniversary watches, cars etc.

So if they have included in the 2008 price list then i guess that they can cover the demand of the market for this year with their inventory

Well there you have it.....skipped right over it when I saw $108,700....
So again I ask, how can something be discontinued and have an updated Price Increase?

But we've seen the 16710 w/ the new movement already......can we assume they are still making the 16710 then????

I think that rolex made just a small portion with an updated movement so that they can satisfy the collectors in the long term cause this watch has been manufactured for 5 decades non stop. I mean what's the point if you have millions of identical watches and not something unique that combines the traditional watch with a small blend of technological advancement which was then passed on to the ceramic GMT ? I think that rolex did this because of the collectors The only thing for sure is that the 16710 gmt's that have the new parachrom are going to be highly collectable in let's say 10-15 years cause there are only few of them made.

Back to the original subject...before this thread was hijacked to talk about GMTs...
The LV in its present incarnation will be gone in two years (if Rolex follows their previous release schedule like the GMT II). The new white gold subs have different cases and ceramic bezels. We might see a new LV with these features...but I think it's far more likely that it will be discontinued. Regardless, the current LV will have had a fairly short and limited production run...which should definitely help them out value-wise in the longer (20 year+) collecting term. |

As with the lv, do you think the one and something years they have the engraving on the rahaut going to be even more rare? They have had the lv since 2005, so three years in production without engraving, and 2008 with. So only a quarter or so will have the "rolexrolex"engraving. I doubt they will come out with a new green bezel sub in the future. It is tough enough to produce a colored ceramic bezel. Although the new style sub has a different blue than the current two tone and gold blue subs. So that gives it the little chance that they might. |

Vincent,
IMO. The 3186 movement in the last of the 16710's has more changes than just the PBS. It is not the same movement hence 3185 to 3186. Some might say that the difference is negligible but it was enough of a change for Rolex to asign it a new number. In 20 years collectors will be making sure that RSC's don't change the spring for the very reason you state - originality - exactly why the current owners of vintage Rolex are insisting that RSC's don't change dials, hands, etc. As far as the LV with the engraved rehaute is concerned. Generally the less numbers of anything made = better collectability.
