Thoughts on Tudor 79090

I currently have a couple of modern subs (114060 & 116610LV) and am looking for a few older models.

A local dealer has the attached Tudor Submariner from 1992 for sale with box and papers at an ok price. Everything looks good to me, but I'm not that familiar with Tudors.

Anyone have any thoughts on this piece?

Thanks for the help.

Not a model I “follow” but based on what little I know it looks OK to me.

Nice clean (no corrosion) Case. That’s important if you care to pressure test it.

Looks like it could be the original bracelet too, which is nice if it is.

It needs a crystal- distorted on the cyclops from polishing.

Nothing else jumps out at me.

Very nice. The bezel lume dot at 12 is not orig. maybe the whole insert was replaced?

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't notice that about the lume dot. It's being offered at 5400 with box and papers. Does that seem reasonable?

I think that’s a pretty fair price. This model hasn’t been ravaged by people creating Frankenwatches like most other Tudor subs (I think 75% of other Tudor sub models for sale have been “altered”).

It’s the last model Tudor Sub and will only creep in value with time.

Strange pip indeed with the metal surround..

Color of the pip on the other side looks ok.

Maybe some kind of Franken/ yukiwatch insert?

Looks good to me & a fair price too, but the insert is wrong .It can be replaced & maybe used to slightly lower any offers you make .And as already posted a lot of Tudor subs have been messed with ,to give the desired look .The 79090 is not quite the last Tudor sub though .That honour goes to the 79190, only produced for a relatively small number of years from 1995-99 .Its also the only Tudor sub to have a sapphire crystal & the bezel is bi-directional .I have a blue 79090 from 89 ,& think Tudors are great value even at today's prices so I would go for it .

Thanks for the help everyone. The dealer said the watch was serviced by Tudor sometime in the past. Could it possibly be a service insert?

He also has the attached 16610 for sale from 1991 with no box and papers. I didn't think the condition was quite as good and he was asking 6800. I thought that was a little high for the condition without papers.

I have noticed a marked increase over the last 6-12 months in the prices being asked for 16610s in the UK. The price quoted would be about right in our market (which is much smaller than the US) but no doubt there will be lots of other members chipping in to tell you that you can get a mint example with box and papers for half the price You sound a little undecided to me so might be worth taking a step back to think carefully about what you are exactly looking for. I have purchased a couple of vintage watches but have learnt that it is best not to compromise (so spend the money to purchase the best possible example......it will save you money in the longterm) and that although I like the idea of "vintage" the reality is often a little disappointing. Good luck with your search.

I like the tudor better. I think they are more fun and inclined for daily use. I like the no gold lume plots too when compared to Rolex. Offer him $5k. An entire bezel assembly for the Watch, including the insert is $300 at a Rolex dealer. Harry

Thanks guys. I do really like the Tudor, but was a little bummed to learn it wasn't 100% original. I also like that it's a complete set.

16610 is a bit much have to say....68 is ok with b&P. Perhaps you could wiggle it a bit to 63-65.

79090 is also nice choice. Here's mine with Tudor 6428-20 Jub:

Rare? I don't know about that. There are 10 on eBay at all times. But they made 20 times the comparable Rolex subs. So it's harder to find. Just my opinion. I like to use the term Rare at fine steakhouses, like nyc's keens !

From the pictures, I know who the dealer is. Stand up guy who does his own servicing. He also gives a one year warranty (or at least he did the last I checked), which probably explains why his prices tend to be on the higher side.

The Tudor looks great.

I went to see it in person and I really liked the look. I decided to pull the trigger.
