Sky-Dweller Love?
New here, but lurking for awhile. It seems from the postings that there is not a whole lot of love for the Sky-Dweller, particularly relative to Sub, GMT, etc. Is it generally disfavored? Was looking hard at one (ideally SS but likely TT given availability), but TRF seems not to prefer. Am I off-base?

Welcome to the forum
There’s plenty of love here for the Skydweller but GMT’s will probably always be more popular due to their history with the brand. Some also prefer the cleaner looking dial. |

Welcome to the forum. There is plenty of love for the SkyDweller. It's not as common as the other models so there are fewer threads about it. Right now I think the SS with the blue dial is one of the hardest watches to get right now.

Get what you want and like. Don’t worry about popularity.

The Sky hasn't been available to the public long enough to generate much love, IMO.
I've never seen one in the flesh, and while I like the look of the pics I see, I'm not falling for anything I've never seen. |

There is a lot of love for it. It's just tough to get a SS version right now, and too large for a lot of people. I tried on a gold one recently, and while beautiful, it's just a bit too big for me (for now).

The sky d is a killer watch, and a great value considering the complications. I’d love to have one at some point. But I think if you are going to have one or two watches, most people stick with the more traditional references.
Still, the sky d is quite popular and deservedly so. |

I think I've seen a gold one before but I honestly didn't like the look of it when it first came out, so I was probably only really interested in the prize I'd visited my dealer for. It has grown on me since but it's hard to love something I have no experience with. It will probably be a bit big for my liking too.

I think there is a whole lot of love for the SkyD around these woods... it’s a gorgeous watch! For me it was just too big on my smaller wrists, mainly the height and not the 42mm size, otherwise I’d probably want/have one!

The stainless model with white dial is very nice looking. I think it’s a great option for an all around watch if you travel, need a gmt, water resistance and something dressy. Sort of a day date, gmt, and dive watch in one. Command bezel and annual calendar are very cool.

It’s my favorite watch. The way it handles the month complication along with the GMT wheel make this watch so much fun. I love the sunburst blue dial, too. Plus for a complicated watch, this thing is built like a tank. So yep, I have lots of love for it!

I know all SS sports models are hard to get, but my experience is that the SS Skydweller are almost as hard to get as the white SS Daytona. I'd absolutely love to get either the SS blue or black, but I haven't been offered one. I suspect others are in a similar situation. Since they're still fairly new and so hard to get, I suspect that's why you don't see many postings.

Personally I love the Skydweller. Perhaps not as famous as the GMT, but a beaut nonetheless.

I personally love it - My next watch will either be a used 118238 or a two tone SkyD.

The fact the Sky Dweller is relative new compared to Sub's, GMT's and the SS versions are the hardest watch in the Rolex inventory to obtain then yes it is not as common.

If you must know, I owned mine for a year and a quarter. It was too large for me and not having it as an only watch it was hard to justify the annual calendar which needed to be reset each time I wore it. I like the watch and think it's beautiful but just not the top of my list. I was very much in love with it at one time and got one of the first ones on the forum. For me my 5 digit ExpII is my go to GMT.

I love GMT’s and have a BLRO, a 16700 and a Tudor GMT ...... I also have a blue SS Sky-D too.
The Sky is my favorite watch and gets more wrist time than any of the GMT’s. Size is perfect for me . |

Skydweller is nice. It's just a tad too big for my taste.

If it was a 40mm watch I think it would sell much better. But this model is so new it just doesn't have the same history as other GMT models. The GMT II is classic, available, a great size, lower cost, and gets the job done. If the Sky-D were at 40mm, for me, it would change the entire trade space of this watch. But I'd still want it in Blue and I'd be even less able to get one since at 40mm, everyone would want one.

At 40 mm it would be too cramped. I think current size is good. |

Compare that to a sea dweller 43 and that is big just to be big, no other reason.
