SBGW231 as a daily?

I'll soon be down to just one beater watch and am thinking hard about a (more or less) one watch 'collection' for a while moving forward. I'm pulled two different ways, the BB58 on one end and the SBGW231 on the other.

I know it's a "dress watch" which in a way makes little sense for me because I'm rarely in a suit, etc, but I love the pure, simplistic elegance of this thing and it would seem hardly out of place most of the time anyway. Plus I could maybe dress it down with a different band.

Anyone have an SBGW231? Wear it with any regularity? Thoughts? Accuracy?

If it gives you joy, wear it. I wear my sbgj217 almost everyday and it could easily be my "one watch" – dings/scrapes and all.

You know, that's the one I also really do love; but I just know that it's going to be too big for my wrist/taste, and that would ultimately be its undoing. But if it were a 37mm (and maybe a hair thinner) ...

Totally makes sense. The SBGW231 definitely sounds like a great option, especially if you like a manual movement. (I'm one of those people who likes to wind a manual, even when I am not wearing it.)

I'm such a fan of Grand Seiko. I own/have owned a Rolex, Speedmaster Pro, Breitling, etc and nothing has given me more pleasure than the GS. For me, it's in the details and the artful composition of the componentry. For example, when looking at the watch from an angle, I love the relationship and depth of the dauphine hands – one perfectly, and spatially, stacked upon the other. It's exquisite. And I just cannot get enough of looking at it.

fwiw. I'm an industrial designer. And at the moment, I cannot think of another product I love more than my GS (maybe equally but not more).

But that's just me. You gotta do what's right by you.

Perfectly stated, and the craftsmanship is a big piece of what draws me to GS (among other things, of course). I've owned a Rolex Explorer and while nice, it never really did it for me, so I ultimately sold it. I've never had a manual wind watch, but I think I'd like it.

I also have a slightly irrational fear of missing out on GS before they get too expensive (having seen the prices jump last year, it's especially fresh in my mind). Things are likely only going to get better and better for GS, which of course means prices will be on the rise, too.

That's a very nice looking watch, clean and such nice quality. For me though it wouldn't be a daly watch due to the climates that I live in and my daily life style. But for many folks it would be just fine as a daily watch.

I’m currently traveling with both watches, and, honestly, the GS has taken most of my wrist time. It’s such a fantastic piece at this price point!!!

Awesome! How's the GS holding up against scratches? About as well as any SS watching I assume? How's accuracy been for you?

I’ve only had the GS for a couple months, but it looks flawless and functions perfectly. It sits comfortably on the wrist and slides easily under cuffs to minimize exposure for scratches. Also, the domed box sapphire protrudes from the case, giving it a “protective layer” before anything would touch the steel.

I love how it can look dressy with the alligator strap or rather casual with a different leather strap. I also added a deployant for ease of use. An all-around versatile watch that I can’t seem to take off my wrist!!

I do want to say that last night, 2 SBGW253 has popped up on our sales forum and I snagged one of them for myself. I know the other one is still for sale from a good seller and this is THE watch for me. Just didn't want people to miss out if they're looking at the SBGW231.

I agree, however if I had to do it again, I'd get the 58 on either the NATO or bracelet. The brown leather OEM strap is too thick and stiff IMO.

Thanks! My AD threw the green strap in as a bonus, but it's not OEM. It has some Japanese characters on the reverse that I unfortunately cannot translate.

As for the size, the 37.2mm is such a classic watch size. I have many other Swiss and German brands and I think this is a good size. not too big or small for 66% of the watch wearers.
