Is it worth buying a Rolex from New York?

I am off to New York in a couple of weeks and just had a thought, are they cheaper over there? More readily available and if so where is a good place to get one? I assume that the airport would be more expensive?

I am interested in getting a sub in either the hulk, Lermit or Batman variants or a James Cameron deep sea dweller.

Cheers Simon

I don’t believe cheaper. Supply may be difficult. Just hit all the Rolex dealers credit card in hand and hope for the best. Don’t buy used or from a non AD.

I’m sure some American posters will chime in on your chances (or complete lack thereof) of getting any of those watches at retail from an AD as a foreign walk-in customer.

That notwithstanding, you would have a choice with any watch you might end up buying, of either paying a large chunk of tax on returning to the U.K. - thus rendering any discount you might get void - or committing VAT fraud.

Just as difficult as anywhere else in the US, if not worse. Maybe try to source one beforehand and rent a car and make a road trip out of it.

From what I hear in here, you'll be very lucky indeed.

Nothing you can import will work out cheaper if Customs spot it.

You will not find any of those models at an AD in NYC. If you go to the Diamond District (47th street), you will see all of them at the various grey dealers who line the street. They will be charging a premium however.

Cheaper in NYC? Not that I've ever seen. Still, it's worth a look. If nothing else you may get to see some interesting watches and meet some interesting people. Good Luck!!

You could always stike a deal with one of the Trusted Resellers in the US and have them ship it to where you are staying in NYC

You have 1000% better luck buying from a grey in the Diamond district than finding the desirable models at a NYC AD without a relationship.

You won’t find a single one of these at retail in nyc. Don’t even waste your time

Is anything cheaper in NYC?!?! It's considered to be one of the most expensive and wealthiest cities in the world. Sports model Rolex's are few and far between. You may find second hand in the diamond district as some have said but expect to pay a premium.

Very difficult to find new SS professional model Rolex from AD here in the city, same as everywhere else I suppose. Lots of nice watch shops with lots of nice watches though. The new watches of Switzerland in SoHo is definitely worth checking out, especially if you are interested in vintage!

He has zero point zero chance of getting any of the hot watches.
My friend just got back from NY where he was at the Rolex Boutique and he walked in with a reference who along with his friends are 7 figure Whale type watch buyers from them.
The manager said he still needs him to buy a Yacht Master and A Deep Sea on top of his friends recommendation to be put up toward the top of the list for a Blue Sky Dweller.

Manager came right and told him they have lots of watches in the safe but they are being held for the whale VIPs when they want them. In other words no shortage for certain people.

0% chance, plus they’re more expensive with exchange rate anyway, plus officially you’re liable for VAT..... enjoy NYC and forget the watches

You may get lucky if they just received a shipment but sports models are few and far between here.

You wont find these at an AD and our sales tax is much higher than almost any other state.

They are extremely discounted if you can find the right street vendor.

I’m sorry, couldn’t resist.

Was in NYC after Xmas and went to every Rolex store I could find and there were no SS sport watches to be purchased. There was lots on 47th but most places seemed sketchy. You walk in one door and many individual counters selling watches but I think they all work with each other.
You maybe able to source a used one from Tourneau.

This. None at an AD, candy stores in the Diamond District at hyper inflated prices.

I would say no. Low supply still. The places you usually think would have great supply , Vegas , Cali , New York are the places that have the lowest supply.

The issue is in NYC (or any major city) a shipment of in demand SS pieces would have been spoken for months if not years in advance.
