Best Tuxedo Rolex?

If you’re looking to follow the “guidelines” for tuxedo wear, then no watch at all. Otherwise I’d go with whatever watch that matches your personality.

Any Rolex would truly work not that anyone would care or even notice it.

Convention states that you shouldn’t wear a watch because you shouldn’t be keeping track of time. There isn’t anywhere else better to be than the black tie event you’re attending.

However, if you want to wear a watch, it should have no complications- maybe seconds and/or date.

Personally, do whatever you want-I don’t think many people would care. I’ve been wearing a Rolex 16758 GMT Master in yellow gold, which I like with a tux.

An all gold Day-Date is a classic option. There's always the Cellini line which is Rolex' dressiest offering. The Explorer I is a sports watch but it can be dressed up but I wouldn't call it "quirky" although it has the 3-6-9 dial.

The Milgauss would probably be too thick but I think that watch is quirky and classy at the same time. Daniel Craig wore it with a Tux.

Hey Tony, thanks for explaining the no watch / tuxedo thing. I've heard about this so-called "fashion faux pas" for years but never heard the reasoning behind it.

It is ironic the world views bond as a beacon of gentlemanly elegance when Ian Fleming wrote the character as a brute of a man.

As the first reply says, black tie dictates no watch. If you are in sophisticated company you have no need to know the time (where else do you need to be?).

That being said, a Sub and a dinner suit are a good looking pair if the man has the right frame.

rolex doesn't make that... i wouldn't consider even a Cellini as thin or elegant. IMO you need to be looking at ALS as a Lange 1 meets all criteria (sort of).. thinness is passable, elegant for sure, and quirky. Otherwise get a calatrava

Moser also fits the bill here they are very quirky watches even in the very simple time only models.

Pick up an used Calatrava. Incredible value for money and that’s the true Tuxedo watch for me. That said I wore my LN Submariner recently and rocked the Bond look (in my head...).

But seriously if it doesn’t have to be a Rolex, I would recommend a PP Calatrava.

It's what I've done. I have my great grandfather's 14k Waltham double hunter. It's beautiful, elegant, and mint. I had it fully restored removing all dents, polished the gold, the porcelain dial and hands cleaned of dirt and dust. It's on a thick 14k chain that was a necklace of my father's that I had converted.

Definitely cool and a conversation piece when people see it.

The idea of not wearing a watch with a tuxedo is a very old tradition. But in the age of modernity it's antiquated with an overwhelming majority of people including those who attend black tie affairs. I would venture to guess most don't even know the "no watch" protocol.

Silly? That's far fetched and outdated opinion. Not everyone is King or Prince to follow such rules. In real life, wearing a watch on Tux is not silly.. far from it!
