Baselworld - Explorer II
Hi guys,
What do you think the chances of a new Explorer II being announced at Baselworld are? If so, what do you think would happen to the 2nd hand market value of the current model - drop or rise? |

I love the EXPII but it's not the most sought after Rolex and there have been a good number of them made. I can't see them popping in value right away, especially if the market considers the new model an upgrade. It is all speculation though. If Rolex updated the EXPII with a smaller 40mm model I would personally snap up a polar 42mm immediately.

Rolex Explorer II will probably be updated for Baselworld 2021 on its 50th anniversary. In my opinion all of the steel bezel explorer II models will increase in value, but the 42mm polar will increase the most. That which is out of favor will be in favor once again.

Not this year. I agree with comments above, regarding 2021 being the year we see an update. Value? NOS will get snapped up and increase right away. The rest will slowly rise- imo. The 42mm polar is a gem, it’s one of my favorites. |

I just bought the 42 polar and think it was a good move. The exp II is still an anomaly in the rolex lineup. Its the steel sports that never was. Even back as a 40mm it was unloved. This is still the case today with the contemporary 42. Yet, 40’s are becoming sought after and, I think 42’s will too. The EXP II, by being unloved, sold fewer pieces, is rarer and, like every single current high value vintage Rolex, back when they were sold, they were generally unloved by the market during their sales era.

I highly doubt the current model explorer II will increase substantially in value if a new one is announced
The 16570 became discontinued and the 216570 was announced, and still the 16570 remains one of the lowest priced Rolex sport models in the lineup. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My opinion is there is a 0.1% chance of a new Exp. II happening before 2021, which is the 50th anniversary of the model. Rolex is too into major anniversaries to waste the opportunity by jumping the gun two years early. I would say zero percent chance, but with Rolex, I'm never 100% sure of anything.
I could see them deleting the current models for a couple years, to allow people the chance to miss them, then reintroduce the line in 2021 with a redesign. I'm 50/50 on that. |
