What Will The Next Hype Cycle Include?

What do folks think will be the next group of hyped and hard to allocate watches? At the moment it seems to be 5711, 15202, Daytonas, GMT, and FP Journe CB. Most of those were pretty easily attainable just a few years ago. I wonder what things will look like in 5 years. Will any currently available watches start becoming hard to find? I don't care about the financial aspect of it. It's fun to speculate on the trends we'll see.

I hear Invicta has hired M.C. Hammer for a "You Can't Touch This" campaign deisgned to spike FOMO and elitist appeal for the brand.

I’m sure whenever Rolex redesigns the Submariner, they’ll be the next latest, greatest hard to get reference.

Small potatoes in the grand scheme of things but the lowly Explorer I seems to be creeping up in price.

The current ss lineup will continue the hype for a while!
This year’s Basel releases confirms that!

Where are you seeing that? I’m not noticing a price creep in the Exp I at all.

Yes it's true today many buy hype and wear the hype instead of buying the watch that they want to own and wear.

REAL PATEK

And I mean nice gold watches on a strap, complicated but not necessary

I mean, forget the Nautilus hype ... one day Patek will be sought after once again for what made them famous and this is not that overhyped sports watch

The new Sub for sure, 3235 movement, redesigned case perhaps, even a new colour to spice things up a bit (navy blue, almost black?). That would be one of the most sought after watches in modern history. Probably impossible to get from an AD unless you're a VIP or a grey reseller.

Maybe the VC Overseas is finally due? Don't think it'll ever reach 5711 or 15202 status but I could see it becoming a waitlist piece.

VCO is so different watch from those two. It so chunky whereas 5711 and 15202 are slim and petite in comparison. But yeah now that Rolex are in same price range as grey market VCO I'd cross-shop for sure if it was not so chunky.
