Considering grey market Daytona trade
Hello gang,
I am considering combining the sale of my Daytona TT 116503 and Sub 116610LN for a grey market Daytona 116500LN (White dial). I would expect a bit of equity in it for me as well as the swap. Speaking with my AD, he is expecting "a while" before I land one, with a few people in the pot for allocation and them only receiving 2 or 3 a year. I am keen to know if anyone would go down this route, or keep the TT Daytona and the Sub. I have a Hulk and a BLNR - so the sub aspect is covered to some extent. My TT is very nice and different to the others, but given the softness of gold and PCL's, it is swiftly looking tired. Granted the PCL of the SS Daytona will see similar wear, however, the bezel will be so much more robust against micro-scratching. Not to mention it is stunning. I've been pining after a ceramic for quite some time now and I don't want the price to keep rising and it ends up costing me more to delay. Any thoughts would be interesting. Thanks! |

Depends on how much you get back ... i think you’re giving up way too much watch.

You face the same dilemma as many of us. Should I get a SS daytona sooner rather than later as the supply and demand is getting worse rather than better. I think the scenario you describe is not something I would consider. Certainly selling on the TT Daytona is worthwhile but to give up your Submariner too is a step to far. I think you would miss your hulk and they aren't easy to come by.
I'm curious to know how many of these 116500's on the grey market sell for their asking price. You may find that presenting yourself as a cash buyer you will get a much better deal. So, I suggest you sell the TT and then use cash savings to make up the shortfall after negotiating with a number of sellers. Remember, you have the advantage of knowing how much of a markup they are making. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk |

So sacrifice a superior Daytona (theoretically 2 tone is superior to the steel material wise) + hot steel model (black sub) for the "technically inferior" but "very hot" steel Daytona.
I wouldn't do it, but rather sell the 2 tone Daytona at the best possible price (some dial variants sell high due to desirability and rarity) and add cash to buy the steel one after negotiating best possible deal or even buy it used from another enthusiast on the forum. If you are not happy with the black sub, you can always sell it for best possible price but not trade 2 watches for one. |

I personally would do that trade
You'll spend a long time wishing you had if you don't And, if ever one comes up at RRP, buy it, and swap the superfluous Daytona for another sub and enough cash to pay back all the difference |

I would and have done a similar trade to swallow the white dial premium. Never looked back after that trade, though I dropped a Panerai and DJ 36 instead of a sub.
Also, advise to make sure you actually prefer the SS Daytona over a WG OF at current prices. |

I would do it, the white dial Daytona is a special watch and I'm not a fan of green watches on the whole so I would trade that one immediately while its sought after.

I would, it sounds like consolidating your collection is a good idea.

IMO - depends on 2 things. First, how madly in love are you with the white dial Daytona? Is it THE watch and if you get it will it make you happy? Second, is it worth taking a ~$12k hit (bc that's essentially what you're doing by buying at Grey Market prices when retail is $12500).
Personally I'm in love with the white dial Daytona too, to the point where it's all I'm focused on and haven't really been looking at any other watch. The chase is half the enjoyment and if I can get it at the $12500, I've pulled off what few others can...and that to me would feel like a win. |

Financially it doesn't make sense.
HOWEVER-what a beautiful watch the white dial Daytona is and that will give you hours of pleasure and add years to your life so it's a definite yes from me |

if you can get the money right, i'd go for it, especially if you have other subs and gmts to fill the void.

Thats a tough one for sure. Personally I wouldn't make the trade.
I wonder if you'll get offered as much as you expect from a gray? |

With what you have the D500 makes sense as the perfect Rolex SS third. Just make sure you do well on the money.

Have you considered the newer WG on OF Daytona? I think it’s a better option myself.

I’d probably sell your TT Daytona and add cash for SS Daytona.

Your AD most likely sources the Grey, not you.
Out of principle I would not buy the Daytona Grey. Not because of grey as such, but the extremely high prices being asked. Its ridiculous. If it was a bit of a premium,it was another matter. I would keep the Sub LN . |

I would never trade something with gold for steel In my opinion the two tone is superior.
