OP39 Blue was too flashy.. BUT not the Explorer I!

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my most recent watch collection experience. I have always worn my 2 favorite watches and taken turns, which were a Breitling SuperOcean 42mm, and Omega Speedy. I was out recently and came across an OP39 with the blue dial which I fell in love with (the blue dial in particular). I tried it on with the oyster bracelet, and figured that since it was smaller by a couple mm than what I usually would wear on my wrist, it would be fine.

Well I must say, I felt that when I wore the Rolex, it stood out too much for some reason. People would notice the coronet, or just ask me what type of watch I had on, and I hated it. I hated the 'flashiness' that came with owning a Rollie I guess. I always felt snobby when I had to say it was a Rolex. I liked the watch for the look, history, and caliber. It's funny I guess, because my Breitling and Omega are brand names, and very expensive as well, but unless you're into watches, people don't know about them.

Anyway, I read a ton of posts on multiple forums, and there are people who actually feel the same way! I was turned on to the Exp I in the 36mm size. After doing some hunting, and research (14270 vs 114270), I was able to find my sons birth year explorer I. I just wanted to go on record and say, the 36mm Rolex is the perfect size Rolex for me. I have a 7.5" wrist. I took the bracelet off and there a field strap and bund pad on it. WOW, I am in love with this watch. The best part is that it is understated, and nobody asks or wonders what type of black dialed watch I have on a bund... Awesome! I feel confident and secure in wearing this beautiful time piece. Here's a pic :-D

Very cool looking. I bought the Exp I in my son’s birth year, as well. However, he was born in 1998 so mine is a 14270 with the Swiss-only dial. Unfortunately, I’m only going to have two more years with it, as it will officially become his once he graduates from college. They really are perfect watches, though.

Mine is a A8 serial number so same as yours. 98/99. It has the 'swiss made' on the dial though. I figure when he graduates college he may get it. But I truly love it, and may give him the OP39 blue lol.
