So happy you posted this! I have just skimmed it but will read through it more thoroughly later on.

The new Tudor P-01 has become even more interesting, if not "beautiful"

Un Gros Merci

I don’t know how to use google translate but I think any post about a P-01 is a great post. I’m so excited to see this watch.

So wonderful post...

Btw people there are only 250 or so Tudors. Maybe 1 per store :)

I think the watch is going to wear like a RM

Some lines for you Fat_ninja

The most beautiful watches all need a beautiful legend, through zones of shadow and bright light their charms are revealed. The new Tudor has delivered us this: we bathe in it's mystery and indulge in it's horological and military enigmas.

What is unique to true legends is their inexhaustible source of dreams, anecdotes, questions and travels across the wonderful land of watches. We have been given this with the P-01 Black Bay, it has been a long time since a watch has indulged us to this level with it's secrets as fascinating as they are unsolvable.

Very colourful writing style that I hope my English has done justice to.

Rolex prototype sold by Ozvaldo Patrizzi (he of the infamous Daytona dials) in 2004 for $82,800 USD.

Wonder what it would fetch if it ever came up for auction nowadays?

de rien (your welcome in French) Gros_ninja

It's way to much for me to do the whole article, even a full accounting is rather dense.

It is posited the Tudor is based on a Rolex that it is surmised preceded it. There are a couple of these around, the authenticity of which Rolex no longer denies. One of these examples is in private hands and is the one pictured with red bezel hour markers.

Interestingly the Rolex versions have different dials, one such dial is found on a very rare Sea Dweller that they picture (million dollar value estimate). The auctions these watches were sold in now have incomplete records. This, and the fact that they are all different and Rolex's about face on their existence adds to the mystery and intrigue surrounding it. Additionally, the military script used for the U.S. Marine is one that has never been used by any branch of the American Forces, so that adds another layer.

It is proposed that in fact Rolex, up until around 2010 entertained the idea of launching the model themselves, as a sort of "navigation' sport chic watch. Since they decided against it Tudor was able to.

I've left a lot out but those are some highlights.

The article says that watch might in fact have been bought by Rolex, the records of purchaser vanished along with the watch, which they say may be hidden away in the catacombs of the Rolex Museum.

Shenanigans!! An immaculate manufacturer such as Rolex could never conceive such a “hideous monstrosity”

Thanks for sharing. It was a good read. Wonder if people thought they were fakes if they found one before P01 launch.

The Tudor P 01 is really a media darling in France.

Another current magazine giving it glowing attention

The Heuer looks nice!
