Right box? Rolex 14060 submariner
Hi,
I've bought a submariner 14060 from 2000 with box and papers. Only it is a box with a placeholder instead of the cushion. This results in the fact that the watch doesn't fit in the box when closed. The AD told me that this is the original box and that the box was only used to show the watch with the box open. When the watch was bought they would put the it in the box instead of using the placeholder. It this correct and is it possible that the box is original with the submariner? Thanks! Thomas |

It might not be the typical box, but it's entirely possible that it was the original box. Back then it wasn't uncommon for dealers to just stick the watch in whichever box was laying around if they didn't have the "correct" box. You see this even more in watches from smaller markets.

Yes, early 2000s boxes changed from the "pillow" insert to the "c-holder" insert.

I think the same goes for booklets too, I have a few complete sets where the booklet dates match the date (year sold) on the papers, but the watch is from the previous year. So the dealer just packs the watch up with what they have.
