A good entry to red wine is port. It is a dessert wine but has a lot of the characteristics that red wine will have; just no tannins and more sweetness.
I like to drink it with a nice bar of bitter dark chocolate. If you get to like this try some fruity, rich, "lush," Zinfandels. They will be sweet, but the right ones will have little tannin so you can get into heavier reds that way. Zins are great grilling wines that hold up well to BBQ, steaks, burgers, and even some of the heartier pasta dishes. |

I’m still confused about the disappearance of approximately 20k cases of the 2012 Zin blend Prisoner. It’s a decent wine but for that amount to be hoarded already is shocking. You can find 1.5 liters but not .750 anywhere but auction. This was going on over a year ago. The price was not crazy so I guess that could be a reason too. Marketing genius maybe..

The 2012 Prisoner was/is freaking awesome! I bet it starts popping up eventually at an elevated price point. You and I both tried to find them to no avail. Let me know if you get any information on the mysterious disaperance of so many cases.

Having a 2013 Napanook today. It's only decanted an hour and it's already amazing! I just may have found my daily drinker.

Good to hear that some 13s are starting to become more approachable. I haven’t opened many for quite a while as many are still pretty green! Cheers!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It took some time to open, I think they need a few years still. Very cherry smelling on opening and more mushroomey after a few hours. Currently sipping on the last glass, been decanting for 7 1/2 hours, the cassis bite has largely settled down now and it's drinking smoother. I may have to pass on drinking this regularly, it's just not aged enough yet.

Quite similar to what I’ve found with most of my ‘13s and even with some ‘14s — opened a PlumpJack reserve 14 and it would have been ready to drink in probably 36hrs...but still VERY young. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So true. We just bought a case of both the regular and reserve 2014 Knights Valley Cabernet.
Tonight it’s a Cotes du Rosé from Rhône while grilling
