I don't often post smilies alone as I believe you can acknowledge somebody's intellect or humour with a simple yet couteous phrase or comment. Forum 'elders' here who post intelligent, concise comments are soon going to be outposted by the smilie brigade who have been here a year or so and that is a little sad, especially seeing as many newer members will look to the post count as some sort of mark of wisdom or again commitment. The three word thread actually contains comments from members about pushing up their post counts. The same as the joke forum with a bunch of guys posting and their post counts increase. You are not into post counts but if a member with only a few posts started slating you publicly (as has often happened with JJ) you would find many longer term members come out to support you. This is usually evidenced through a coment such as "With only a few posts to your name....". the larger post count also gives an indication of why those guys might support you...it's becuase you've been around for a while and formed those bonds. As for the 3 word thing, the three word thread was fun and original at first...now it just seems to be reams of pages full of the same poster posting unanswered inane comments. It has also become about as funny as tearing my eye out with a dirty spoon and then feeding said eye to a pig! That is my opinion and mine alone. What can I do? Stay out of ithe thread and it won't annoy me! It's the same as you state Art, the "can I wear my Rolex..." stuff actually has started to hurt my very soul. I hardly post on the main board now as I find it dull and boring. I like annoying Rolex zealots or guys with a snobbish attitude towards wealth so I may venture there but prefer to stay around here. Just my opinions, don't expect anybody to agree. J |

Following on Jimbos comments I believe that the three word thread started out as inventive and very funny, but now seems sterile and seems to exist only to serve as a way for some posters to boost their post numbers or break thread count records.

Aww, I think the 3 word thread is kind of fun - though it does have strangely addictive properties. I can't read it all anymore, though. Never saw a connection with boosting post counts, I guess because post counts never have mattered much to me.
On a more important subject: I haven't heard from Carolina in a couple of days. At last communication she said her husband was slated to have surgery on his lungs after all. Hope all went well and she can update us soon. |

Hubby ended up having surgery on late Wednesday afternoon. The surgeon said everything went very well, and once they got in there, they realized that it was definitely necessary. For you doctor types, he had a thoracoscopy, a decortication, and a thorocotomy. I have some great pre and post aenastesia stories, but I'll save those for another time. He's doing OK. The docs said that this is a very painful surgery, and he was having a difficult time with the pain yesterday morning. When I left last night, he was doing better and feeling a bit more comfortable. I'm trying as we speak to get over to see him, but need to work out babysitting for the afternoon. Feeling mad, too - PM or email me if you want - I'm not going to post junk like that here. Thanks for everyone's good wishes. I am hoping he is able to come home soon! And, FYI - a couple of docs have told me that they are seeing young, healthy patients such as my husband in recently. There is a bad bug going aroind, so don't wait if you are feeling poorly!

Carolina, I wish I was there to help - we'd come get the kids and make Halloween cupcakes.
I'm glad you can make time to update us on TRF. Lots of us are concerned and wishing the best for you and your family. I'm so sorry about what your husband is going through. Please PM me if there's anything you want to share - if you have time. |

Carolina, I am glad to hear that hubby is on the mend. It seems as though he will be as good as new, just like a Rolex after full service.

Carolina I'm glad your husband is breathing well again. Breathing is so boring (repetitive) but it's the thing we miss most when we can't do it.
Looking forward to the stories.

Thank you to those who replied to my post as to why post counts are considered important by some members. As a newcomer here, my initial impression was that a lot of members do consider a member's post count to be important. Now that I have been here for a little while, I find that some members do consider them important, and some do not. I did not post as soon as I became a member. I searched for some information, and found the information that I sought. I learned a lot about Rolex in searching TRF for a brief period of time. I learned more about Rolex searching TRF than I had learned from having worn a Rolex since 1971. Then I got into the posting.
It seems as though some members have specific goals on number of posts, (e.g. "I want to reach xxxx posts by the end of the month.") It is good that people have choices--focus on posts or don't focus on posts. I am one of those who came to TRF because I wanted to find some information about Rolex watches, but stayed around because of the people. Sometimes I think there are those who think of this as a watch forum, rather than as a people forum for those who want to talk about watches and other things. People first, watches second. Well, maybe watches are third. Maybe even fourth. Or fifth. There is much courtesy and politeness on TRF. I have not seen a direct derogatory post about the panda going wild over on the Three Word Thread, although I certainly have gone wild over there--over 1000 posts on that one thread. Think about it, though. Perhaps it is better to keep the panda in one thread, rather than running wild all over the place. Maybe we need a thread for pandas and honorary pandas. That thread IS addictive for some reason. I sometimes stay up until 2 or 3 in the morning posting there, often talking to myself. Post panda post. Again, thanks to all of you. HM Panda really nuts.

Have you tried using the RolexGreen color available at the bottom of the page? It is much more soothing now, and easier to read, at least in my opinion. What say you?

Ok Carolina, now that your husband appears out of the woods heres the aftermath, I took 3 weeks before I actually did any kind of real work before I went back, and I really can't explain it but I still didn't feel quite right for another week ot two. The funny thing though is every time he feels a twinge in his chest for the next year he is going to want to go back to the doctor, thinking the pneumonia is coming back, in an effort to stop it before the pain hits. My doctor is a goofy friend of mine and he told me if he saw me walking towards him any more, he was going to run the other way.
