Exactly my philosophy as well!!

That Rothschild looks so inviting alas I'm afraid to start dabbling with French wines, I'll have no money left knowing my tastes.

I LOVE French wines — and honestly my wine education began with Burgundies and then Bordeaux’s when I lived abroad. For me there’s a lot more thought and research that will go into my French wines - especially older ones - as provenance is PARAMOUNT even before vintage.

Simply...The Wine Thread

For those who have posted about all the expensive wine posted in the thread, this is an easy drinking summer wine from down under that we had with dinner tonight.

Some of the early season stuff is maturing in the garden too.

Lettuce and radishes from the garden here

And green onions from the garden here.

Teach me!

Seriously, could PM/email/text me some great Bordeaux's for the wife and I to buy? Reds under $100 a bottle as starting point (if that is possible)

Moved on to something a little nicer to go with the flourless chocolate cake for dessert.

We’ve been gravitating towards more Chablis lately - and less Montrachets and Mersaults — less richness and more minerality...

Probably no surprise the Raveneau was the class bottle of the three, but what's amazing is it's their third tier Chablis and as fantastic as it was they have two classifications over and above this amazing bottle LOL

Had a bottle or two of the Heinz Cab while in SC at the Patek Golf Outing. A nice easy to drink Cabernet my wife and I enjoyed.

Not with those three, but opened two Meursaults back to back the weekend before and they were both completely oxidized. They were bottles I had brought back from France last year so no chance of getting money back on them as they aren't even distributed in the states

Yeah seeking wax, leads to dealing with wax but I have opening them down to a science, best way to go at them is with a butter knife's back edge tapping all around until you chisel a clean top and pull the cork like normal.

Doh, that's horrible!

I'm a firm believer now in paying the tariff on the top-end stuff, but at restos with solid pricing. If the pox is an issue, then it's on them and not me/us......

I was very fortunate to have a tasting with owner of Chateau Angelus, Messr. Hubert de Bouard de Laforest on Tuesday night.

It was a mini vertical showing 2015, 2011, 2008 and 2005 of the cru as well as 1967 from magnum (from the winery cellars). Before the main show we started with a 2012 Carillon (second wine) and a 2012 La Fleur de Bouard.

For me 2005 was a clear standout of the night closely followed by 2011. 2015 has massive potential but it was so closed up I don't think it will be anywhere near its best for another 10 years. The 1967 had some cork taint on the nose initially but it went away and on the palate didn't show it and it had a gambit of primary, secondary and well developed tertiary aromas.

Anyway here are some photos of wine and food.

Well this one only lasted a week in my possession but it was definitely a great one to drink tonight. Knowing that a few more were on their way acted as an instigator to consumption I guess.

They make some really great wine - and with so many great wines out there it is one that is often overlooked. They have a great little consolidated tasting room in Napa (city) - a very different experience than visiting a winery, etc, but well worth it. RC is one of our little gems that we have always enjoyed!

This one was great - opened it and decanted for about an hour — great color, the nose was super smooth, pencil shavings, a little leather with some dark fruit. I love how it transitioned in the glass after about 30 mins and started to reveal more barrel characteristics — which is why I enjoy older vintages so much.

Hope you are able to find it!! Would definitely like to know what you think!!
