Easy argument to defend Max as I agree with his season. I don’t buy the human part though for Masi... Is it his fault, maybe not. Maybe it is the overall architecture that allowed poor decision making, in the most epic way possible. Regardless, he made the decision and has to live or die by it. Also, let’s not talk about Max’s season, just the last 10 laps of a single Grand Prix, irrespective of the stakes. Masi had 4 options as I see it, 1. Allow all cars to pass and end race under safety car (follow the rules), 2. no cars pass (follow the rules), 3. red flag (sort of bend the rules), 4. actual decision made to end the race (disregard the rules)… He legit made the WORST possible decision under pressure from a rules perspective (regardless if you love or hate Max or whether or not Max deserved the title). If he red flagged it, I would have supported it 100% (which makes me a hypocrite, but the race fair) and if he kept cars from passing, whoever won, would have won without any “asterisk” debate. Fair or not, I do believe he had to go. Can’t risk another high stake situation in his hands given the recent growth of F1 and its integrity in question. Edit: Hamilton could have put on new tires at the safety car, or VSC carrier, so the the result weren’t all Masi’s fault. Regardless though, just on a single decision point, he went against the rules which are pretty clear stated. |

That's the trajectory of F1. Plus the sponsors will surely embrace the modern direction of fairness for all, regardless of one's chosen sexual orientation, preference, and lifestyle. Has there ever been an openly gay or transgender F1 driver? With the Flag Girls long gone, and other changes, am truly looking forward to the next chapter of F1 sports entertainment.

Yup. 24 Hour has specially-abled drivers. And the very popular Twitch with VR racing. There's some serious racing going on in eSports

Sharing another one of my "F1 Off Season Blues" video series. This one shows "speed differential. Although a bit dated, it brings home the point. Hope you enjoy!

Not too dated for an update… Susie Stoddart is now CEO of a Formula E team and famously involved in FIA racing circles. She also married Toto Wolfe since the video. Jamie Green is with Team Rosberg GmbH in DTM (yes the team Keke & Nico lead). Bernd Mayländer is still the F1 Safety Car driver - and should have crossed the finish line first at Abu Dhabi according to many… There, I said it…and connected the whole thing to current events Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Didn't he win a very rainy F1 race last year? Most laps in the lead too I heard.

But see, truth is that's part of the modern F1 boredom. Rain races, imho, are where we see true drivers with talent shine. Modern F1 has robbed us of this to some extent.
I'll renew my F1 app/package for 2023, yet frankly it may be my last. Am hopeful, yet discontent.

The Official Formula One Thread!
I can’t chalk up Spa to the current F1 scheme.
It’s not sporting to green flag a race when even the most aggressive rain tire can’t navigate deep standing water on the circuit. I never missed a wet start when I raced, but there were some Qually sessions I skipped because there was nothing to gain in the wet. But I wouldn’t have started at Spa. I agree the silly laps behind SC to justify some points was poor use of the code. Now the regs have been updated and we won’t see that again. The new F1 regs were published Friday: https://www.fia.com/sites/default/fi...2022-02-18.pdf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

But the way I'm interpreting this is that yet another disgruntled fan that says Masi's decision cost Bernd Maylander from crossing the finish line ahead of Lewis and Max in Abu Dhabi. Maylander did lead the most laps in the Saudi Arabian GP but don't believe he had what it took to win at Abu Dhabi. Maybe it was Maylander and not Lewis and Toto that got Masi "reassigned" within the FIA? |

No I’m not disgruntled - maybe my words were poorly parsed.
I meant that many others thought the finale should have finished under DWY & SC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

So now that Toto and Lewis have had Masi fired, why haven't we heard from the new FIA president about the penalty that both of those two have coming to them for not adhering to the Sporting Regulations when they failed to attend the prize gala or present their championship car or did I miss that?

Masi failed to correctly apply the rules in a late safety car period and had a direct impact on the outcome of the title race.
Two men will now alternate in the role, while extra help will be provided to officials. Masi, got Masi fired. |

Seb has announced he will not be going to Sochi if the race is still on. Max has said that F1 should not be racing in a country that is at war.
There is no doubt in my mind that F1 and the FIA do not want to lose the money given to them from the Russian Federation to host the race, but they could easily change the venue as they did during Covid. |

It’s really the organizers who hold the cards on Sochi. If they sense the race would lose money (even with subsidies), they’d cancel it in a NY minute.
I agree FIA may vote to “un-sanction” that race if the EU censures Russia and embargoes begin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Isn't the Middle East at war with Yemen? This has been ongoing for some time. Guess they can nix that race as well.

I agree with you that the EU could force F1's hand just like they did back in the day when cigarette sponsorship was a big part of F1 and the EU made the teams take the branding off the cars for all races held in Europe but they were allowed to have the advertisement at other locations.... until they weren't allow to even do that anymore. When in doubt, follow the money trail. F1/FIA are ONLY INTERESTED IN THE MONEY, always have, always will and they are the most hyporcritical sporting organization on the planet. At least FIFA and the IOC don't have ridiculous slogans like "We Race As One" when they really don't mean it. |
