Kubica would have, from Orlen. But they’ve prolonged their partnership with Alfa Romeo.

Pietro Fittipaldi and Antonio Giovinazzi are the two rumoured contenders for the Haas seat.

Whomever gets the HAAS seat will have to bring money. If Pietro had "significant" funding, he probably would have already had the seat. Ferrari has openly said they would prefer Giovanazzi in the seat and maybe that comes with soft dollar compensation in the form of reduced prices on power units to HAAS, who knows.

With regard to Mazepin, one could reasonably argue that he shouldn't have been in F1 in the first place but could have developed into a better driver given time and a better car similar to how Lance Stroll developed into a serviceable F1 pilot from his Williams days to the current situation. Unfortunately, most prospects don't have that luxury of time to develop at the highest level.

Typically, the top drivers garner a lot of media attention and focus, but I have to say that Mazepin has been in F1 news more than any other backmarker that I can remember in just 12 months time!

The Fittipaldi family is worth $500m usd and they have connections. So Pietro has money but will likely use other peoples sponsorships.

Id like to see a HAAS Penske Andretti F1 team , it has a nice ring to it.

I think that HAAS Penske Andretti sounds AWESOME! That would be a fantastic combo.

I am really hoping that the new regulations, and all the cost gap stuff coming will make HAAS competitive. Would love to see the American team do good.

I’m guessing the HAAS Penske Andretti supporters have never worked for “the Captain”….

That combo won’t happen.

IMHO…
FIT family will not fund HAAS - they are a losing team.

Ferrari would only reduce the prices for their ICE PUs - not put real money in.

GIO is best fit to replace MAZ - now the problem is how to get some OPM.

Great points Paul... and we really don't know if Pietro has the talent to warrant a fully funded ride through the family.

With regard to HAAS, Penske and Andretti.... that's a lot of egos there... it will never happen and just looking at Gene's face when he's at an F1 race, he looks like he just ate some bad sushi... My guess is that he wants out really bad.

I agree but ownership doesn’t mean team principle. It would be a USA team and allow familiarity for Andretti (I don’t think he’ll get a team alone) and Penske is very old. These guys are professionals, they’ll hire the best people and sit back.

He must not want out that bad. According to Andretti, he, Andretti has offered to take the team off of his hands several times.

Giovinazzi should be the guy to step right in...he has the persona/character that all drivers love, he is dependable and has proven he can drive a F1 car....now he needs to find sponsors with Haas ditching their major one.

Given how cheap Gene Haas has been with his team the past 2 years, I think this is all that's going to matter when it comes to the next driver.

Love this quote regarding Fernando Alonso and rate him as one of the best F1 drivers of all time regardless of the fact he only has 2 WDC but because of what he's able to do with a lessor car for many of his years.

Former Ferrari sporting director Massimo Rivola on Fernando Alonso...
"Nobody read races like him. Many times he made those of us on the pit wall feel like idiots because he could see beyond."

Hope that Ferrari, along with McLaren, can somehow join the fight against Mercedes and Red Bull and make it a 4 team competition instead of a 2 driver competition.

Agreed, Alonso is an amazingly talented development driver.

Hey, haven't heard any news yet, did they cancel the Saudia Arabia race as they did Russia?

Imola is good.

Was curious how the rules applied in deciding...

F1 did just take my $$ for this season, does that get me a question during a press event?

"What is a development driver in F1?
A test driver, often referred to as a test and development driver, is a racing driver who is employed by a Formula One team to be involved in the development and testing of a particular F1 car but is not involved in the actual F1 race."

Yea, agree. Since the elimination of "in season" testing the roll of the race drivers for development has been diminished.

We're cool, what I mean is a High Compliment. He truly can help develop a car to achieve maximum performance. Senna was also fanatical in this regard. Not all drivers are so detail-oriented... plus YES he is one hell of a driver.

Put Alonso in a Mercedes with an equal team around him, Hamilton would get powned imho.

We had ham/Alonso. In a Maclaren when Alonso was top of his game and Ham a rookie. Alonso was made very uncomfortable. Ham would monster him.

100% agree and would take Alonso 11 out of 10 times against Ham. That being said, it doesn't look like Alpine will have a competitive car again this year so 2022 or 2023 will be Alonso's final year in F1.
