So what's the consensus on John lobb?

Want a new pair of boots and I'm a bit frustrated about the lack of an EG store in NY. Or just more stockists.

These look interesting but I don't know about spending 2k on something RTW.

Leffot has EG, or you can just order direct.

Personally I’ve always found EG lasts a bit better looking than Lobb.

Personally I prefer EG over John Lobb. There's definitely not anything wrong with John Lobb, it is just that my MTO Galways are the most comfortable pair of boots I have.

John Lobb makes great shoes but their MTO program is lacking compared to EG or G&G. The John Lobb bespoke workshop in Paris makes amazing shoes.

Sid Mashburn carries the Galway on the 82 last (Utah leather). Only 9.5 US in stock now thought..

Don't mean to be rude - and tastes differ (and are subjective) - but yikes.

John Lobb makes some fantastic iconic shoes. Notice how I just said shoes. Thing is Edward Green has a wider and in my opinion better selection and actually more to my preference line of boots. Gaziano and Girling would be my second choice for boots. Saint Crispins would be my third choice for boots. Crockett and Jones from the lower tier or even Vass after that would be someone I would think of.

John Lobb made one pair of Jodphurs I once considered purchasing but other than that I don't ever remember them making a boot that ever appealed to me.

If you see something that does I wouldn't hesitate getting it as long as you could achieve a good fit.

Thanks Dan!

I was deciding between a pair of suede Jodphurs and chealseas from C&J as I've had a really good experience with them, but thought maybe I should maybe take the next step and see what else is out there.

If only EG would just open a retail location in NYC.

Chances are, if you have to say something like "I don't mean to be rude" before you make a comment - you are most likely coming off as rude, and it is probably better not to say anything at all. Just something I have learned over the years.

Not sure what Edward Green makes with regards to these models however because for the most part these were not the styles I was interested in.

You're correct.

To be more explicit - I just don't think any kind of branding should be on a dress shoe.

How many of you are into shoes... (Dress Shoes)?

Well...I had a recent experience similar to some of our members with Rolex AD relationships...after a fashion.

Eighteen months to two years or so ago I put my name on a waiting list at an Alden shop for a pair of Ravello Shell Cordovan Long Wing Bluchers. Since then I have mostly gone bespoke for new dress shoes.

Ravello is presumably a rare unicorn shade of Cordovan that Horween does not produce very often. It’s a special order with no guarantee the shop will get an allocation. Sound familiar Daytona / Pepsi fans?

I had forgotten about the wait list until I received an email recently saying they had a pair in my size and I could pick them up if interested.

So while I’ve never had the experience of buying a watch this way, I can now count myself as one who has purchased a “rare”’pair of shoes via a wait list.

Note: these shoes also have a dual-branded stamp - on the lining not dial - ala Rolex/Tiffany. Hahaha.

I was there about a year or so ago and they had galways. Tried them on, but didn't take my time so still not sure how the 82 feels on my wider foot. Not sure if they have had a ready stock of galways recently. Will have to call and stop by.

I guess I could also just order a pair from EG direct. They apparently offer free returns, but it just seems like a hassle.

Edit : Just found this picture from when I was last there. Apparently January 2018

The Galway is by far my favorite boot. The great thing is that it can be had on so many different Lasts and in so many different kinds of leathers as well as two types of leathers.

You could also do a quick check on their website. But yeah a call probably couldn't hurt.

Good luck,

Dan

Thanks Dan.

I almost passed...but figured I don't have any long-wings in this color, and I have never had a fulfillment of anything off a waiting list! Certainly not a watch.

I have a pair of black, pigskin split-toe derbys in the making from Cleverley. Will have a fitting in April/May. I keep thinking I should get a classic pair of black cap toe oxfords, but they are so formal...I would not get much use out of them.

I really like the colours and style of those shoes, look really good. We have always called that style "Royals," or should I say, we called them that in my part of the country (North East England). I am not sure if they are called that elsewhere.

Many, many congratulations, you have a very stylish collection of shoes.
