That might be it, or there may even be others. To be honest I never pay that close of attention to mine. If it's obvious I will probably notice and then I would be disappointed and I'll probably do something about it, but I never go looking for it. I think if you try hard enough there a good chance your always going to find something.

These are pretty insignificant errors. A slightly crooked stitch and a cm of overstitching that can only be seen in the right lighting. Frankly, I only looked because I was curious what JL considered a reject. It doesn't take much apparently.

Understand and if I had purchased seconds I may have done the same. More like you did, kind of out of curiosity more than anything else.

For the most part the more you spend the better they do about catching mistakes and having higher standards. Not that you don't ever here about mistakes, you just don't hear about as many. Of course they make less shoes a year than someone like Allen Edmonds which also makes it easier. Overall for the most part the Top Tier Shoemakers tend to have some pretty high standards from what I've witnessed. Based on what I've read and seen on the internet there are some shoemakers who make more QC mistakes than others.

How many of you are into shoes... (Dress Shoes)?

You could describe me as being *somewhat* of a fan of Alden shoes...

I have them on many lasts, in different skins, dress and casual. 👍

Perhaps that's a bit boring, but it works for me. I have a really wide foot with a high instep, and I've figured out which sizes work on which lasts, fit-wise, so it gives me lots of options to work with that I know will be comfortable.

As long as it works for you and Alden makes some pretty nice shoes. I tend to like shoes that come in boxes a slightly different shade of green.

Thanks! It's a mostly shell collection. I have ravello, cigar, whiskey, and my favorite, lots of #8. The closest pair to the front in that pic is a pair of Norwegian split toe bluchers in #8 pebble grain shell, which is hard to come by.

By the way since you are interested in Allen Edmonds you might want to take a gander at the following Allen Edmonds Appreciation thread. You may very well find some good info from other Allen Edmonds enthusiasts such as yourself.

I love it. Thank you again Sir. Would you mind sharing with us your first pair? If you still have them around. I'd love to see which one started the spark.

If you have a company store in your town, get to know the sales guys real well.. I periodically have a custom sole put on my AE and they often order these semi-custom shoes with only a $40 up charge.

I have the double monk you mention in bourbon but with a dainite sole. It is one of my go-to foul weather shoes. Just be aware that AE uses a softer cap backer than most cap toes so you may have a touch of creasing into the cap. It does not bother me as it makes the shoe flex where my foot wants it to, but it bothers a great many of the cap-toe purists.

My very humble dress/sporty shoe collection.

Nothing too crazy but the dress ones are hand crafted with wooden soles.

Thanks Chris.

For some reason it's darker than I thought it would be or I remembered it would, but anyway I am extremely happy with the results.

Wooden soles, isn't that rather hard on the feet?

It depends. There is a nice outer layer of leather that acts sort of like a liner so it really softens some of the blows.

When I was in primary and secondary school (catholic in South America) that is all we were allowed to wear so over the years I've grown to love harder soles.

In fact, I have a hard time wearing all leather soles.

Where do you have them made? I'm not sure I've seen wooden soles, other than the heel.

Nice collection Carlos! It looks like you're using the Ikea type shoe trees. Similar to what I used for my Jordans. Do you prefer those over cedar shoe trees for your dress shoes? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you and, yes, they are St. James II in vintage cherry, MH71 last. I didn't have to wait very long on these (not an MTO, just a restock). I think you'll love yours when they arrive.

I didn't realize vintage cherry had the rich brownish tones that yours have. The pictures online look more red. I'll make a note of that for the future.

These are the Ikea ones. I would love to have some serious cedar trees but they're crazy expensive. These along with some paper take care of the moisture and keep them straight. The shoes aren't expensive enough to justify the need..

Adelaide's are fabulous looking shoes, and this is one of if not the best looking one out there in my opinion.
