New movement, I would see this as the major change to the diver line
I think the new movement will be making it into the professional line this year too! We will know very soon

Me too. I think it's the natural evolution, whether its this year or not remains to be seen but I think it will happen sooner or later.

I'm betting we'll see:
1. some added women's geared pieces (incl discontinuing 26mm size)
2. a coke SS GMT
3. a RG GMT or Sub
4. new SS dj
5. some added DD40 dials
6. some Sea dweller love
7. something new and completely unexpected

I think with current conditions and the new leadership having a full term, we're going to see a big and exciting new year!

Have they ever debuted that many new things at one Baselworld?

Definitely just a matter of time and they'll give us all a reason to have to repurchase the models we already own

I think so depending on how you categorize the update. Last year was

1. Stainless, TT, Daytona update and some new dial options for other metals
2. YM 1 dial
3. Brand new AirKing
4. Explorer 1 update
5. Brand new Datejust 41

Just to name a few, I'm sure I'm forgetting some

That would be cool. I would also like to see a DD40, smooth bezel on a strap...

Please.

Not only is that an awesome idea but, and I don't have to tell you this, it's the working stiff, and not the enthusiast on these forums, who make up the preponderance of your consumer base.

They want it to look like a "Rolex" more than they care for it to be functional and utilitarian.

Signed, the Everyman.
I don't know, I can't believe that many normal people walk in and say where's the bubble thing on this watch? I think the price was the main barrier, esp next to the same size Sub. At 42/3mm this has a good chance of distinction and more sales, I don't think the Cyclops makes much difference apart from helping aging eyes which is a legitimate issue.

Agree with above, just don't see the cyclops are a maker / breaker. I'd prefer it to be absent but wouldn't stop me from adding. 42 probably would.

Problem will be the cost of titanium (sourcing and manufacturing of the case) which will mean it'll have to be a optional reference like gold and platinum.
Google McGizmo Flashlights to see polished titanium items. Yes, titanium can polish up nicely, although some may like the natural grey titanium finish.

I've been delaying my SD purchase since last year due to possibility of 50th anniversary edition. I wouldn't buy it if it's the once rumored gradient green dial. Would I buy it with cyclops? Probably yes! But it's not because I like cyclops (I strongly prefer one without cyclops). I want a Rolex diver with date function that is smaller/thinner than DSSD and prefer the SD bezel markings over sub's, ......in that case I've been left no other choice! Adding a cyclops making it less appealing and it appears that more people are thinking that way than otherwise!

Sir, take a look at Baselworld 2013. First off they released the Anniversary Daytona... First Daytona in Platinum, first Daytona to have a ceramic bezel as well. Then they released the BLNR. If that wasn't enough, they released the Y-M2 in steel. They then decided to go a little crazy with all of the color options with a new range of DD's which has since been discontinued... All of the straps matched the dials on these models. A new Pearlmaster and diamond DD were released as well. There is definitely precedent to release a bunch of new, exciting watches at one BW.

Is Titanium really that much more expensive than steel to source and machine? There are lots of Titanium watches on the market well below a Rolex price point.

What am I missing with the titanium thing? What's the draw? I've tried on a Pelagos and some special edition Speedmaster with a Titanium case and it feels so light that it almost has no wrist presence. I know that's a matter of preference but I'm still wondering, is that the draw? The lightness?

Or is there some other reason that folks are interested in Titanium?

Imo, if it's just about the weight of the case and bracelet, it would be a big mistake. That "feel" and substantiality of steel is something I look forward to and I feel that it would be lacking in titanium. Again, it's a preference thing; I get that.

You make a good point and I did mention the size as well. I do think that there is an associational value of the cyclops as a "Rolex" though. Rightly or wrongly, that perception exists. I'm not sure that I care since I daily a 114060 now. But I think that folks immediately relate that magnifier, as much if not more than the crown, as "Rolex."

I think there are many who probably couldn't see the benefit of paying $2000 dollars over the cost of a Sub for a complication (greater depth ratings and hsv) that doesn't have any utility for them. Especially when you consider that only an infinitesimally small amount of consumers buy the Submariner (at a much lower price point) for it's actual utility as a tool watch made for diving.

As I said in my earlier post, many are scared to eat spaghetti or have relations with their significant others with their watch on much less take it the length of three football (American) fields underwater.

They buy Subs because it's become the quintessential Rolex.

In my humble opinion, Rolex is smart to rebrand the Sea Dweller as a Submariner on steroids. Giving it a cyclops (mimicking an already successful stylistic draw) and making it bigger would accomplish that.
