I wear an Explorer Mk2 that I bought new in April 2019. I wear it everyday (I've converted to be one watch guy but that's another topic for another thread).

Outside of my family, only one person in all that time has noticed my watch. I realize the Explorer is known for flying under the radar. This was part of the appeal for me as the Mk2 was intended to be the only watch I wear. Perhaps a Daytona or Day Date would garner more attention and I'm quite sure those of you who own such models can comment on that.

I know that we as watch junkies are always looking at other people's wrists. The general public just doesn't notice your watch.

Thanks for reading.
Friend, it my responsibility to make sure that people notice my watch.

So you better believe they do.

While it's true most people aren't as interested in what is on a wrist as we are, you can't say 'no one notices' because you just don't know. Now, to say 'people rarely say anything' - that I agree with 100%.

When you’re pushing $280 watches...yikes.

My Sub has been noticed twice in the 9 or so months I've had it. Both times it was uncomfortable and I recently purchased a Squale to wear when traveling so I can still enjoy a quality watch without the looks.

The first time was at a casino in Detroit, the person who noticed was very excited and just wanted to chat about watches. However he and his friends were a bit drunk and pretty loud, we were by an elevator and the parking lot where there's no security with about 20 other people. I'm disabled so I didn't really like all the attention because I'm not exactly a mountain of strength!

The other time was in Las Vegas in an elevator, my wife and I, and one other dude. He looked at my wrist and said something about it being a Rolex, then followed with "you better take care of that watch man", gave me the creeps. I'm not really one to scare or judge or whatever but being alone in an elevator like that, I felt a bit trapped and it wasn't like a friendly banter...

I also never really expected anyone to notice. I bought it 100% for me to enjoy, I'm one of those art meets precision mechanics kind of guys and I appreciate my watches from that perspective alone. Same reason I'd buy multiple Porsches over a Lamborghini. Porsche, to me is like Rolex, the perfect balance of beauty, innovation, and performance!

Anyway, that's my soapbox for the night.

I had more folks call out my IWC Pilots Chrono than my 216570. Not sure why. I’d say the IWC begged for attention, because it’s a killer looking watch...but a polar Ex2 isn’t exactly subtle.

I read the forums from time to time but don't really post much.

I've had several guys notice my BLNR and comment while at the poker table both in Vegas and my local casino. Usually they are wearing something nice (Omega, Pan, Rolex, ect).
Had several ask how long it took to get as they know there are not a lot of them sitting in the AD.
I do need to mention that I think nice watches are more common among serious poker players. There is usually more than one player wearing a nice watch at the table. I certainly see more rolex at the poker table than out in the wild.

There has been a few non watch wearers ask me how much it cost once they realize its a Rolex, my standard answer is that I'm not sure, my wife gave to me as a gift.

Thanks, Tim

For the past 38 years have worn primarily a GMT 16750 and less so a Bluesy I admit my memory is not as good as it was but I reckon I can count on both hands possibly one the number of times someone has commented on my watch. Unless your watch is bling bling ie a diamond encrusted pure gold variant the majority of people don't notice your watch.
People on these pages are obviously different. Watch people notice what others are wearing. I certainly do and if its an unusual watch I may say something to the person as a compliment.

Interesting little Yes / No article in the WSJ this weekend as "debatable" on whether you should wear a watch if there's no one to impress?

Should you wear a watch if there’s no one around to impress? We argue both sides

https://www.wsj.com/articles/should-...ss-11597312824 via @WSJ

I wear my watches because I enjoy them, not to impress others. Wear what you want, when you want, because it makes YOU happy.

The article Argues as if the only reason to wear a watch is to impress people.

I’m a hard person to impress with I’m trying to impress myself.

And don’t get me started with keeping up with the Jones’s watch box slot next door. It just keeps getting worse and worse trying to one up the last purchase to impress the collector in me.

Not many people comment on my watches, but I do notice people looking at it. A few times, while having cocktails with clients, I've noticed them staring at my watch.

I do notice other people timepieces and will strike up a conversation if it's a watch I fancy.

Agreed. I still s ear a watch every single day and I’ve barely left my house since March, and I think I appreciate them more now than I did before. One of the dependably good parts of every day.

I wear my watches for me . At work I wear my 1996 Breitling Chronomat Black Bird . At 38.5 mm it is always under my cuff . I wear my watches at home because I like them and I want to enjoy them . At home or when I go out I wear my Rolexes , Tudors , Omegas or Iwc’s . I enjoy them and no one comments or probably notices .

No one gives a rat's ass what's on your wrist. Most folks are wrapped up in other issues, especially now.

Maybe people do but almost nobody says anything. Maybe on average 1 comment every year.
I do say something when I see someone wearing an interesting piece. I’ve seen three great 5513s in the last couple years and complimented the owner. Two were family heirlooms.

Most of the time, the only people noticing / commenting are the dudes selling knock-off watches in shit hole countries....

We think people don't notice them but some do... I was at the dentist the other day and was going to get one of those circular dental x-rays in what is probably a mini-CAT scanner. Which might have giant magnets so I took my sub off and put it on the side table in the exam office after explaining about the magnets. The assistant said, "I'll take care of that for you!" in a joking way. And I said ok and slipped it on her wrist. OMFG! The look on her face was priceless! Her poor husband might be in for an expensive birthday present in the near future...
