i feel the same way the more i look at it. it's really well done but it's just the shock factor of what it is that throws everyone off but i'd never buy it if i had the money also. they're probably just trying to be a bit more out there to compete with RM, but i don't know if marvel is the way

If AP have truly pissed off a customer like you then they've certainly screwed up. The question is whether that matters to them, which we'll only know over time.

Was told that AP has been in "severe damage control" since the launch and the entire project is being "reassessed" internally. As some may have also noticed, AP is actively deleting hundreds of negative comments on their youtube video, which is still leaving a massive net negative majority as they keep pouring in. Possibly some hope that AP sees this for the failure it truly is and that they are proactive in decisions moving forward with this theme.

I think they do know and let’s face it, it’s between what 0.5% and under 1% of their annual production, but everyone right now is talking about it

Looking at the comments that are left, I'd wager that the deleted ones are mostly gone for good reason. One could argue that the real PR fail is to enable comments for a cesspool like Youtube.

Excellent point.

Just remember, there are 600 active NBA players around and countless more retired. Those guys alone can fill the 250 watch allocation. Add to this all the hundreds of NFL players, celebs etc and there you have it.

Black Panther is more than a superhero. Its a cultural icon in the African-American community and not only.

I think this immediately trades at least 2x retail.

Lots of hate among this group. The watch doesn’t do anything for me but I hope these are a success for AP.

I really tried understanding this. I really tried to get into it. I really tried to like the watch... but just can’t. As a one watch AP collector (1159), I am kinda of embarrassed such a prestige, historically rich, luxury brand took this turn.

Please, AP experts and staff on these forums, please explain.

Well, not sure how this is more embarrassing than various prior collaborations - at least Black Panther was a successful and culturally significant movie (too bad if people can't admit that). That's more than can be said of this rubbish: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146675/
Marvel seems a more significant partner than many of the B-listers whose names have graced prior special editions and who are now conveniently forgotten in the outrage about the Black Panther concept.

AP has actually gone out of their way many times to say this edition in no way was related to Marvel Films and was chosen purely on the comic book merits, which is almost as laughable as the edition itself. Did they underestimate the intelligence of their customers or did IQs just sharply drop internally?

Yeah, that was a bit disingenuous. "We look forward to seeing you at this amazing live event from Hollywood!", sure, pure coincidence.

The watch is terrible IMO but kudos to AP for trying something “different”.

I always think the special editions are marking gimmicks though.

There isn’t a word in the English language to describe just how terrible of a watch AP has produced here...sad day.

Exactly this. A friggin superhero on the dial This looks absolutely cringeworthy.

AP launches this abomination and meanwhile PP just absolutely kills it with this launch. Please tell me, which would you choose?

Here, let me get this thread back on track and actually post something in all of these pages that looks what it’s worth.

The only redeeming quality of the watch is that it benefits low income youth. At least that’s what I read about the project.

Good on AP for taking risks, but they need to “fail well” here, and quickly, as Ray Dalio would say, and ensure a watch like this never happens again.

No, but the CEO is an ex-golfer, which makes you qualified to lead a HH brand, didn't you know that?

You forgot how PP dropped it as an afterthought last week and will show the 'main dish' today.

AP messed up by not controlling the hype machine well enough. They knew what the product was, should’ve managed expectations better.

This forum is funny. AP releases new in house caliber in the Royal Oak, Offshore and Diver. 15202PT 2 weeks ago. They release one specific watch in their concept line (which is always for pushing the bounds and trying something different) and everyone is all up at arms.

Maybe they should just stick with everyone else and just do new colors on dials and call it a day....

My take is they are going after some of the crazy RM watches. If this had an RM logo it would be 1m+ and no one would blink an eye.
